Big Law

Q about billing for the bowl: do y’all bill for back and forths with the relativity folks, for example, or for back and forths with outside legal services folks? Currently lead associate handling logistics on transcription services and it’s like herding cats. Technically what I’m doing isn’t “law related” but the services provided are helping our case. Same question but for overseeing our paralegal. Do you bill for managing them and making sure they stay on top of their work?

    good coworkers horrible role

    Pros

Your coworkers in the department are smart and are will always be willing to help if they have time. The training period is free pay to learn a software. Good company holiday parties.

    Cons

The pay is no where near what's appropriate for the knowledge and expertise required to perform the actual job well Their use of metrics to heavily monitor employee performance is primarily used to give small meaningless awards to high performers, and to deny raises and promotions from everyone else You will be constantly performing what is considered "unsupported work". This means you will be asked to do the job of SQL DBA for example, Relativity will bill the client an hourly rate that's 10x your pay rate, and you will receive nothing for performing tasks far outside of your role. All the common cons of being in support for a large company. Insufferable tech culture filled with company all hands where the executives all congratulate each other The teams are constantly understaffed due to high churn and poor planning by management

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic Great Support from across the organization. Amazing people to work with

    Cons

The work load is overbearing. This job is not for the feint of heart. The support organization is flawed, there is no real structure and you will NOT have work/life balance because of this.

    Pros

    - Company truly cares for its employees - Culture is very diverse and inclusive, employees are empowered to bring their full selves to work - Company values are deeply rooted in all aspects of your work and serve as an incredibly useful guide to succeed - Management is transparent and honest, and they do an excellent job of sharing information across the company - Culture is highly feedback-driven, managers take feedback seriously and promote an atmosphere where employees can share feedback openly - Excellent benefits package - No dress code - Happy hours every Friday - Company-wide “all hands” meetings every month - Building is in a great downtown location close to public transit and offers a lot of amenities such as fitness center, rooftop lounge/meeting space with outdoor patio, and various restaurants and shops in the building lobby - Offices are well designed with adjustable standing desks and an open atmosphere (managers and directors share an open floor plan with employees) and have a lot of great amenities including free beverages, café with an arcade, comfortable meeting spaces, and a mediation/napping space - Employees have access to great tools and technology - Highly flexible work schedules and ability to work remotely whenever needed - Various clubs/committees and volunteer opportunities throughout the city

    Cons

    - Due to the nature of their work, the customer service/technical support team cannot share some of the flexibility that other teams have. - Annual reviews for support team members are mostly based on metrics that may not accurately reflect the employees’ success in their role.
