    Pros

    - Company is rapidly growing. There is lots of opportunity to make an impact.

    Cons

I have been working at Relic Entertainment full-time for less than a year

    Pros

+ AAA titles with high quality standards. + You won't feel like 'another cog in the wheel', there is a huge sense of ownership in everything you do + Working with the latest technology + Very understanding culture: work/life balance, no shaming, collaborate to achieve results + Nerds; Hearthstone, miniatures, tech, games, they've got it all.

    Cons

    - Large company means it takes quite a while to learn the internal tools that exist, who to go to for help on things, etc - Easy to bite off more than you can chew as a new employee, working with systems that are far beyond initial understanding

I have been working at Relic Entertainment full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - At Relic, I've met some of the smartest and most talented developers I've had the pleasure of working with in my career so far. These guys and gals know what they're doing and are great at making you feel like part of the team. There's no dead weight type folks that you can often find at other game studios who are just going through the motions and collecting a paycheque. People here are passionate about their work. - The games in development are true AAA heavyweights where one would truly proud to ship with their name in the credits. There's no mad rush here to throw out as much crap as we can into the market and see what sticks.. There's a quality over quantity approach to developing the best possible games. - Awesome work life balance. The average age of a Relic employee is a bit older than what you'd find in a start-up or mobile games studio. This means that everyone respects the need for family and real-life first. There's no crazy overtime "death-march" culture that I've seen so far. People work hard when they're here and they go home at regular hours. - Great culture so far. Like I mentioned above, people here are professionals who work hard, don't waste time and get sh!t done. Even though the average age is a bit higher, the team here still likes to have fun with regular game and movie nights as well as other activities outside of office hours. Overall, there's a great vibe to stay healthy, give back to the community and have fun. - The leadership group is transparent on most things and it does genuinely feel as though there is an open door that you can always go and get your questions or concerns addressed. There's no real complicated hierarchy or chain of command here. It's a pretty flat structure from what I've seen. And even though Relic is owned by Sega, there's no "micro-management" and red-tape to deal with. It's safe to say Sega trusts the team here and gives them the freedom and support to do what they do best.

    Cons

    - Having the studio separated between two floors is not the greatest set-up. It often makes me feel that we're almost two separate studios/teams because of the physical separation. Right now the 4th floor is more complete in terms of polish while the 2nd floor feels 2nd rate compared to the 4th floor. - It'd be nice to have an increased budget when it comes to office snacks/goods. We get free drinks (pop and coffee) and fresh fruits once a week, but I think there's a lot of room to step-up our game and get more snacks and treats stocked in house. Things like granola bars, yogurt and other healthy options should always be available. - Also on the topic of office perks, it'd be nice to get the occasional free lunch or free breakfast from time to time. It doesn't need to be free daily meals like Silicon Valley tech companies, but just doing it a few times a month would be great and shouldn't break the budget. - Not sure if this is already being done or been done before, but it'd be nice to get swag from Sega and our other sister studios. Free copies of games or free digital copies of games and stuff like t-shirts or knick-knacks for our desks would be greatly appreciated. - The overall pace of development can seem and feel pretty slow if you're coming from the mobile or app space. These big AAA strategy games have a lot of moving pieces and the expected level of production value and polish is very high so this type of gig is not recommended if you can't deal with the idea of putting a dedicating a a couple of years+ towards one game.

I worked at Relic Entertainment full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good Pay. Good Benefits. Great Employees. Generally pleasant work environment.

    Cons

Customer wishes are often ignored. Though treated well, the concerns of employees often at least seem to be ignored. Note: I left the company for personal reasons, my leaving the company does not in any way reflect negatively on the company.

I have been working at Relic Entertainment full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Unlike most studios, designers at Relic are given a lot of independence and feature ownership. The "silo" effect can sometimes occur, but the company works hard to improve their processes. Relic has been in the business long enough that there is no department that I would consider weak. Understaffed on occasion, but certainly not weak. The executive, production, art, QA, development, animation, design, and IT staff are all exceptionally professional. There is no dead wood at this studio.

    Cons

No complaints, other than not enough donuts are delivered on Fridays.

    Relic Entertainment Response

    November 17, 2016General Manager

Hi – thanks for the feedback and I’m glad you liked being part of the team! Joining any new company can be hard and we are no exception; as you know, we are growing and making sure we do a great job of welcoming new people to the studio is important to me. We are working on some cool ideas for new staff – team lunches when a new hire starts, creating more awareness around the clubs/activities we have (movie and board game nights, running club, Grouse Grind club, etc.), and constantly looking for other ways to make new Relicans feel welcome. If you have any suggestions would love for you to drop me a note – always nice to have a Relican (whether current or past) view on things!

I worked at Relic Entertainment full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great studio and perks for staff to get them through the working day and crunch times. Very dedicated staff with a passion for gaming and producing quality work through all stages of a project. Not scared to try new ideas and push the quality bar throughout the studio.

    Cons

Overtime crunch can be painful, but this is being addressed by management.
