I worked at Rent 1st (More than a year)

    Pros

Wage, Coworkers (outside of work), Training, Skills. Not to much more to actually list they paid you well to treat you like garbage so its a trade to be honest.

    Cons

Management, Hostile environment, long hours, about every other complaint you could think of from a company that over works their employees and constatly cusses at them and cripples themselves.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees like humans not statistics. Pay the hours that are actually worked ant not loophole it with salary.

I worked at Rent 1st full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed meeting with customers...when I was not repossessing from them. Pay was okay but not the best. Lots of autonomy when on routes and dealing with customers.

    Cons

Long hours, poor opportunities to move up, some homes that you had to enter were hazardous (i.e. hoarding, roaches, drug use, bad neighborhoods), and the values and culture of the whole organization were not very good; they would sell broken and dirty items. Items returned to fix were sold to other customers and replacements did not match the original items.

    Advice to Management

Don't bring people in and promise management positions when you know that you are not hiring for that. Don't make promises of any kind to employees and not follow-through (or worse yet, fire them)

    Pros

The job pays well for the type of work and if you don't have any college. there is a great deal of idle time.

    Cons

Rent 1st will rip you off when it comes to time reporting. They will work you as many hours as they can and only pay you $6.79 per hour for any time worked over 40 hours per week. They will make you sign an agreement regarding your pay. repo's suck

    Advice to Management

If you want good employees pay them for there overtime. Get a heart after all you are making $3200 dolaars on an $800 dollar tv ...If your customer shows you a history of on time payments it is not necessary to call them 3 times per day

    Pros

The only pro about working for Rent 1st is that they promote from within.

    Cons

Pay was ok as a sales and service manager at 34000 plus bonus ;however, I was working at least 60 at week. My average hourly pay after taxes was $10 an hour. The company expects there employees to work extra hours w/ no pay. Starting out as an account manager you work 44 hours and overtime is half time (usually worked at least 50 hours but only payed for 44). Everybody is required to take a mandatory hour lunch break which often I never even got a 10 min lunch break. The worst four months of my life was working for Rent1st. The company scans there customers and there employees. I would never recommend Rent 1st to anybody

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Don't call screaming and cussing out your hard working over stressed employees.

"Work here if you have no conscience. It's a job, definetely not a career."

    Pros

The best thing about working here is that the pay isn't as bad as other rent to own stores such as Rent A Center, Aaron's etc. It's not that hard to get hired, you don't need any experience or a degree and if you stick with you can easily get promoted to store manager. Opportunities for advancement come quickly if your willing to work at different stores in the area. Your first start out as an acct. manager which pretty much means you do everything, from there you move up to collections mgr., then sales & service mgr. and finally store manager. For someone with no education or work experience it can be a decent job.

    Cons

The downsides greatly outweigh the pros. It's a rent to own store which means you'll be dealing with poor people who can't afford to buy it or just your average scumbag off the street. The main downside is feeling sorry for all the customers. They're already poor as it is and then totally ripping them off really weighs on your conscience because you pretty much do anything to get people to rent stuff. The company treats it's customers like animals. Your expected to wear a long sleeve dress shirt, tie, slacks, and nice shoes to work which sucks when you have to go out and deliver washers/driers, refrigerators and other stuff in 100 degree heat. You will get dirty and sweaty. This is pretty much predatory lending. You have to do collections which means you knock on people's homes and repo their stuff if they don't pay. This job is a cross b/w a repo man and sales. To be fair, you can make some money if you make it to store manager but you won't sleep well at night knowing your ripping people off.

Also, the work schedule isn't that great, you work every saturday. Your required to work overtime only instead of getting time and a half, you get half-time which means for every hour of overtime you actually make half of your hourly wage!

Since your repoing poor people's fridges, washers and driers, you have to clean them after they're returned so you can expect to see tons of roaches. Gross! They then rent these out to other customers

    Advice to Management

I don't know how you guys sleep at night knowing what you to do to your customers. Show a little more compassion towards customers and employees.
