    Pros

The only pro about this job is that you get a workout

    Cons

    Overworked
Time frame on deliveries, no matter what floor you are delivering too.
Furniture frequently damaged because they do not provide the proper things to protect the furniture, except for a blanket and we are automatically blamed for it.

    Advice to Management

    Be nicer to your employees.

I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay and benifits are good.

    Cons

If you like to spend time with your family, then this job isn't for you. Also management, they think that since they have power, they can treat other employees like dirt and this includes cussing at them and throwing them under the bus.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time

    Pros

A weekly pay check is addictive.

    Cons

The rent to own business has a tendency to be exploitative to people of lower incomes.

    Advice to Management

Create a more transparent method of rent to own for the customer in the next business model.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, fast advancements in field, performance-based career, co-workers become family, fun environment, great benefits. The feeling of helping an individual achieve ownership of a product they may not be capable of purchasing outside RAC is very rewarding.

    Cons

Corporate speaks on Quality of Life, yet I haven't met a co-worker yet that can agree. VERY LONG HOURS, some managers even work on Sunday. A lot has changed in the Jacksonville area since new Regional and District managers. They have drained all the life out of new employees, or ran off the senior ones. Very quick to jump to conclusions before getting truth. Inappropriate comments made by regional manager about employees. Not professional at all. Speaks about taking naps in home store office while on the clock.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved with the actual stores. Learn to "practice what you preach" in your training videos about "Quality of Life." Screen your employees better. Not ALL stores have surveillance,. Please take care of that. Talk with store level employees about how they are treated and spoke to by DM, RD, etc. Some may be honest, maybe not, but there are problems. Many are doing jobs above their pay grade with no explanation but "short staffed."

I have been working at Rent-A-Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

RARELY boring, decent hours, decent pay, off Sundays/most bank holidays, good for building work experience/tolerance

    Cons

Rent a Center is like your first "practice" girlfriend of jobs. She's what's easily available and she's kind of fun to fool around with for a while, but you eventually realize she's horrible and you'll leave her having learned lessons that will help you avoid similar issues with later girls.

I have too many amusing, infuriating, and horrifying stories to share (okay here's a brief summary of the oddest: a customer tried to feed me a dog biscuit once, and claimed they were "her favorite"), so I'll just sum up my experiences with some suggestions for others considering this job.

    1. Regarding the business conducted between employees and customers, more often than not each will be constantly trying to coerce, scam, or lie to the other. With Rent a Center's business model, NOBODY is the good guy. You will constantly tread a thin moral line at this job, and frequently find yourself astray on either side wondering how you got there.

    2. Essential supplies: Work gloves with good grip and some kind of padding on the back, a pocket knife, spare clothes, hand sanitizer, and VapoRub (for rubbing under your nose in scent-based emergencies a la "Silence of the Lambs" autopsy scene, since a good portion of customers houses I visited had at least some kind of strong unpleasant odor ranging from smoke to mold to bodily waste of animal AND human origin).

    3. Your enjoyment, or at least tolerance, of this job will depend entirely on the nature of your co-workers, especially your manager. Not just their attitudes, but their actual ability to do their jobs will greatly affect your own performance. One thing is constant though, corporate always wants their sales and will pressure your boss relentlessly until they are forced to take unsavory measures to ensure the numbers stay high enough. This drove my first manager to have an anxiety attack which hospitalized him.

Good luck, you're gonna need it.

    Advice to Management

If you make the small amount of effort it takes to express and/or demonstrate that you respect and appreciate your underlings, you will have our respect and appreciation in return and it will be reflected in the quality of our work. If you do not, then the productivity of your store will quickly be in peril.
