I worked at Republic Finance LLC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, and benefits. I established a few very close friends. Work-Life balance was OK. I was told I should never take a week long vacation because the branch couldn't run short for that long, even though the company requires every employee to take at least one week off per year. Not bad other than that.

    Cons

I think some of the negative things were brought on by the CFPB, however, it shouldn't be an excuse. Management doesn't care about you, they care about numbers, and how much money is made. There's no appreciation whatsoever, if you're doing something well, managers will just tell you that you suck at something else. My manager made a toxic work culture where everyone hates their jobs, then threatens to fire them even if they are meeting "satisfactory" requirements. I could go on for hours with stories. Credit insurance is pushed on to customers, along with car club. Some customers have both and don't even realize it.

Career advancement heavily leaned toward men, who politically positioned themselves in the right "circle" It didn't seem as if job performance really mattered. Advancement was based on "who you know" and "how well do they like you" sort of criteria.

    Advice to Management

The most important part of a business are it's people. When the people are taken care of, they reciprocate that to the employer. Why don't you try treating the people as just that, and not like some tool that is there to make you more money.

Great people! Many great friendships came out of my time at Republic.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement without a degree....even for super hard workers. But college degrees are the new standard, so it is definitely understandable.

    Pros

Very few. If you're coming right out of college the pay is good considering that you don't have to think much to do this job. If you are in a good producing branch, the chance for bonuses is good.

    Cons

They say you are "salary" but truly you are hourly and have to clock in/out every day.
They tell you in your interviews that there are great bonuses and compensations, but those are based on branch production not individual work effort, and sometimes are not actually attainable goals.
This job is pure collections, you will spend hours of your day calling people about their payments, and all upper management cares about is delinquency. If you do not enjoy customers being very hostile towards you, this is not the job for you.
Depending on the manager and other employees in the office, you can have a great work environment or a terrible one. Unfortunately, I was in the second category.
You are not allowed to take vacation days in November or December, and you are offered very few days off for holidays.
The interest rates on some of these loans tip into the 40 percent levels and border on predatory lending.
In the end, the company only cares about your numbers and the bottom line. This takes precedence over its employees as well as its customers.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your customer base is completely different depending on the location of the branch. You cannot say that all the customers are the same when you are comparing different states or cities vs. more rural areas. This is going to affect the types of loans, the delinquency rates, types of customers, etc. and branch/region goals should be adjusted according to the geographical demographics.

Also, be more transparent about what the job is. The job is mainly debt collecting with a little bit of loan writing thrown in. Be up front about that in the interviews so employees know what to expect of the job.
