I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only perk to working here is that they offer a generous amount of time off. However, expect the supervisor and his unofficial no titled assistant to give you an extremely hard time over any days you may wish to take. Also if there is a single person with time off that day you will not get the time you request.

    Cons

Schedule is tough if you have a family or want one. Pay is extremely low, about half what techs can make in the feild. The amount of equipment to maintain is astronomical and the crews are all severely short handed. Various work assignments have nothing to do with an HVAC technicians skills such as roof leaks, cleaning up after contractors, plunging toilets and other nonsense plumbing tasks. Very discouraging condescending attitude from management. Management is unhelpful and unwilling to work with you on either changing shifts when another shift has a position available, or if say you want to persuade dither education (like I did) I got ignored, lied to, pushed to the back burner and blown off even though I WORK FOR A COLLEGE.

    Advice to Management

Increase the starting salary (and current employees that are very behind in pay) to something that isn't an insult, this would solve the entire crew not caring about the place at all and possibly correct each crew being short handed. Begin giving raises, specifically ones that will at least keep up with the cost of living or exceed because everyone above my position makes over double my salary. Stop letting people create nonsense high paying do nothing positions for friends and family. Take care of the office spaces instead of letting them get disgusting and all the furniture is falling apart, offer employees some sort of motivation to succeed rather than no one gets a raise or anything to imply they are appreciated.

I have been working at Research Foundation of State University New York full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Faculty and Professors are exceptional and willing to help students out in every way that they can. Few colleges and universities have the same access to tools and resources that are available at CNSE.

    Cons

Funding for projects and Assistantships is always a struggle to get approved. The lack of on-campus library and other typical college resources and facilities are detractors of being a student research assistant here.

    Advice to Management

Many of the tools can benefit from having service contracts. Currently when a tool breaks it is unknown to when it may be back up in running. This was never an issue before when service contracts were in place but now that they have been eliminated it makes working with the tools a tenuous relationship.

I worked at Research Foundation of State University New York as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They hire interns every semester so more and more students will get an opportunity. Pay is good. Work is good and you get to work on projects that will create an impact on city as well as well whole new york state.

    Cons

Some times low on funding. Extensions are not provided. Limited number of people working in a team so less exposure to people.

    Advice to Management

Please make more opportunity for students and create various positions every semester so that more number of students can gain experience while studying.
