    Toxic Environment

    Pros

Decent paygrade Decent benefits free CPR training

    Cons

Staff verbally and emotionally abusing kids, screaming at them constantly, especially when the kids would try to self-harm. I was told by staff that the kids would "try to manipulate me with their SOB STORIES (aka their trauma)". There is no compassion or empathy here. Punishments include making kids sit on the floor for more than 24 hours with no human interaction. They were forced to eat their meals on the floor. Kids were also told they could not go to the bathroom until the top of the hour, despite the bathrooms being in their rooms. That meant if a kid said they needed to go to the bathroom at 2:10, they would make them wait 50 minutes to go. The kids are bullied by staff, and management treats their staff, who are doing all the ground work, like crap. Being involuntarily mandated to stay for an extra shift (ex: working overnight and being forced to stay for day shift and potentially being awake for more than 24 hours) is common, and as much as they say they are flexible, staff needs are widely ignored. The entire center is disorganized, with scheduling and even hiring taking far longer than it should because paperwork would get "lost". Absolutely toxic, abusive work environment.

    Pros

Flexible schedule, Helping/making a difference with adolescents

    Cons

Company didn't know what they were doing when I worked there; piled so much work on therapists it was pathetic; Didn't look after therapists for burnout, passion fatigue, and being overworked; therapists were doing both therapist work AND case management work, but wouldn't take anything away to balance things out; therapists weren't appreciated and the benefits weren't all that great/job wasn't worth the benefits given; very political position; if you weren't in the upper management clique you weren't looked after like you deserved

    Racial discrimination! Underpaid! Overworked!

    Pros

Easy job; You basically babysit young adults. Play games with them, open bathroom doors and room doors.

    Cons

Management doesn't care. Forget your degree; especially if you are black. You can't advance. Benefits sucks. Make meagre money; use it all on health insurance. For what we do here, we should be paid more. Overall, Just work here until you get a better job. This is not a guaranteed job; all it takes for you to get fired is an accusation from a kid that doesn't like you or a 'white staff' that doesn't like you.
