Take the good with the bad

      Pros

Good Pay, Benefits and in most locations always in need of good, smart and willing to learn/work people.

      Cons

Long hours, a huge disconnect between executive and branch level staff. Union staff and sometimes even supervisory staff is a revolving door. The culture and its organizational structure must be evaluated to improve morale, retention and development of all employees.

      Pros

Private Company with Union Membership. Rapid growing company, business is on upward trend for next 2-3 years. Can make good income but one has to put in a lot of hours to get it. Lots of OT available for those who want it. Public companies like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, HomeDepot frown upon OT & are mostly 90% part-timers which equal low checks or 2 jobs. 401k, tuition reimbursement, avg insurance. Great for those looking for experience on resume and great for those looking for a 2nd chance at life.

      Cons

Very long hours due to minimal staff & antiquated procedures. Very physical work. Enormous turnover from Managers to hourly staff. Long tenure employees know how to play the system. Have to complete 12 months to be eligible for a 1wk vacation, and only 1 week vacay per year. Industry standards are 2 week paid vacations per year after 90 days but not R.D. Training is low & confusing. Every store, every manager do things very differently. So you learn at 1 training store how to do something & when you return to your home base store, they tell you "forget it, we do it this way". Lunch & breaks are almost non-existent. One is swallowing their food while on the job, so you can go 10-14 hours without exiting the building. Every state has their own laws about this. Technology; hands down the most primitive of all retail companies private/public from the register, computers, scan guns, software, etc. Primitive tech in 2017 equals even longer hours, harder work, time waste, less efficiency. Their main rival is #1 leading Giant Sysco who owns the majority of the market share.

      Pros

A lot of decent hardworking people who I've made friends with.

      Cons

Everything from low starting wages, the rudest and nastiest customers to antiquated equipment and computer systems, impossible work loads and incredibly long hours especially if you're a salaried manager. No respect for their employees who are treated like third world citizens without absolutely no rights, especially down here in Florida. Abused daily by management and customers who once again are the vilest I've ever seen and who get away with wantonly destroying merchandise that they haven't paid for. In all my years in retail, I've never seen anything like it.

      Pros

Transfers are accessible, opportunities to move forward are available and bonuses are earned.

      Cons

Lack of respect for staff, long hours & low pay, does not appreciate hard work or acknowledges their employees,it's a shame when there is a blizzard and you demand your employees to come into work....apparently safety is not priority, hence maybe that's why they purchase back braces (plastic)that are not OSHA approved. Even to supply their employees with warm jackets who work in the freezer dept are difficult to come by,it's pulling teeth. Understaffed, yet management would rather do nothing other than dictate, instead of lending a hand to the department's who need assistance. Disgraceful!

      Pros

      Money, health insurance, woo hoo

      Cons

Long hours, no life, people always trying to get you fired, no help, revolving door business, management sucks and the ones who care transfer out because the job sucks. Self entitled owners who expect the world of you. HR in the stores who don't do anything try to befriend you so they can slip you up if you call out and poke around your private business.
