I worked at Restoration Hardware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Total company outlook is taught and shared throughout the company, great people to work with. Team oriented vision in everything they do. What you say matters to even the corporate employees . They care about you having a life and your daily life needs also. Your not just a slave to the company, you have a life outside of work and they respect that

    Cons

No commission. Also to get higher in the company you have move to San Fran to the headquarters. The company is moving to less on hand merchandise, so less room for stock room employees. Stock price is falling. Still working things out.

    Advice to Management

More room to grow. Not just for designers but also other employees. Need for just New Store Opening team division. Also visual teams need more direction from a district head or manager. Better management for how to have outdoor furniture in New England galleries.

I worked at Restoration Hardware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has values that lead the way they operate. The company is constantly innovating and is a leader in the design field, changing the way retail is perceived. Restoration Hardware is now aiming to become the worlds leading design firm and is well on its way.

    Cons

Logistically, the company still needs to iron out the kinks. With such sudden growth, vendors sometimes cannot provide items within order timeframes which leads to customer dissatisfaction. The company is working hard to make this better for clients in all ways possible.

    Advice to Management

Continue with weekly leadership lessons for all levels of staff and less time spent on long conference calls.

I have been working at Restoration Hardware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

+Great company to get your foot into the corporate world.
+Fast paced environment provides vast amounts of experience with a hot corporate brand in a short time.
+There is opportunity to both advance and change career paths within the company
+Many departments allow for limited work-from-home and flexible schedules so long as it doesn't interfere with overall productivity and general availability
+Nice campus to come into work every day
+Most people are friendly, smart, good intentioned and hard working
+Personally - I like that everyone is generally too busy to stand around chatting

    Cons

    -No 401K match
-Health plans could be more competitive
-Can get frustrating and chaotic particularly due to the employee high turnover and a constantly changing company focus
-Culture tolerates a disappointing attitude when it comes to respecting an individual's time both in the office and at home. (personal pet peeve is people checking their phone email during meetings)
-Severely outdated retail systems compound the work and stress the company already demands from their employees - forcing more time to be spent on manual processing rather than productive decision making.
-A competitive base pay salary (for the area) has to be negotiated

    Advice to Management

The current benefits options send the message to potential (and current) employees that very long term employment of 5+ years is not a consideration to the company. If there is any company initiative to attract candidates who would consider RH as more than a stepping-stone position then the options for those people to grow their long-term wealth as a reward to staying with the company should be expanded.

    Pros

smart people working very hard. I enjoyed working with most of the team who are all held to very high standards.

    Cons

not a democracy....and run by the opinions of a select few. unfortunately many rumblings of dissatisfaction and petty rumbles.

    Advice to Management

get on a calendar and try to hold to at least some of it. it would be so helpful to minimize waste of time and money and help to keep the troops on task. good luck to all!

I worked at Restoration Hardware part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Constant workflow, fast pace, had a great management team that cared about standards. I was part of a team that had a great flow and was there to be successful. I learned so much about design and really helped customers build their dreams.

    Cons

When management was shuffled around I think corporate made a poor choice on who was going to be the new store leader. Standards dropped, work ethics went out the window. Nepotism ran rampant and favoritism was the new normal.

    Advice to Management

This was the first job that I have held were going from a strong leader to an inexperienced manager truly affected team morale and store sales. I understand that sometimes you need to take a leap of faith when making a decision but it shouldn't ever be across a canyon.
