    Advice to Management

    Pros

Great employees, comprehensive benefits, nice office space in the heart of DC.

    Cons

On the outside looking in, you'd be excited to work here. Beware, you might be getting catfished. Your experience here will vary greatly depending on your manager/team. So choose wisely. Because they company is still pretty young, they're still trying to sort out processes and policies as there never seem to be any. Diversity could be improved although this is an ongoing initiative. Managers should stop trying to...

    Advice to Management

R4D has the resources and talent it needs to be a powerful force in the NGO community but until you address manager issues, HR issues and employee relations issues, you won't get anywhere.

      No opinion of CEO

I worked at Results for Development Institute full-time

      Pros

      - Wonderful, intelligent people who are passionate about what they do - Interesting projects (depending on your team), and opportunities to travel - Some people are given incredibly opportunities to advance and grow - it's rare to be at a non-profit that tries to promote based on merit, and not based on grants and staffing

      Cons

People's experiences at R4D are highly variable based on their team and manager - in the right role, you're given autonomy and opportunity, and you have incredible mentorship and teammates who will help you advance. In other roles, you end up overworked, underpaid, and subject to the whims of company politics.

      Advice to Management

Listen to feedback from junior staff - when multiple people flag a specific team/manager as a problem, you need to do something or risk losing staff you've invested a lot of time and resources in. Try to ensure a consistent experience by training managers on how to manage, and empowering junior staff to drive their careers at R4D without being reliant on their manager.

I worked at Results for Development Institute full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      - Very intelligent, driven coworkers. People are generally nice - Cool travel opportunities (depending on your projects) - Benefits include 5 weeks of paid vacation, with additional sick time - Flexible work policies, including working from home - If you're passionate about R4D's areas of focus, you would probably enjoy the content of the work

      Cons

-Little to no incentive structure or pathways to promotion for junior staff - Your experience is very dependent on your team and the projects you get staffed on, which you have little control over - As a junior staff member, a large majority of your work can be administrative, which makes it particularly hard to carve out a pathway to promotion and is not always conducive to feeling like your input is valued - Culture...

I have been working at Results for Development Institute full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

A fast-growing organization. Jammin the Google-like workplace vibe.

      Cons

Right now, we are mostly millennials. I cannot grow professionally without mentors. I am working with peers and there are often dismissive remarks of older staff--like "they are out of touch, or too rooted in old ways." Not all of my peers will share this view but I see it in the workplace, in meetings. I feel like I am still in college, at times--cliques abound.

      Advice to Management

You hire us because we are less expensive but we cannot grow across the organization by not partnering with more experienced professionals from this field of work. We have skills, but not deep knowledge always---it can seem we spin our wheels or get too attached to tools, not techniques.

      Pros

This organization is full of smart, caring, and driven people. It's an especially great place to work if you're on the junior side, since there are a lot of opportunities to try new things and build new skills; managers also place trust in you quickly, and work with you to seek opportunities for you to grow in the ways you want to.

      Cons

The workload can be heavy sometimes
