I worked at Retail Solutions full-time

    Pros

You can learn a lot and the chance to work with some really bright people is always a nice benefit.

    Cons

High healthcare costs, culture is a bit tough and low, there is now a new leadership team. We're still waiting to see how things turn out.

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving the product is key to the future success of RSi. It's been and continues to be the major challenge.

I have been working at Retail Solutions (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has great data to work with. I have worked in SF / Silicon Valley for 15 years and one of the biggest differences between company failure and success seems to be "who has the best data." These guys have it and we get to work with it every day which makes for much more satisfying (and interesting) science and development projects

    Cons

The company is going through a big platform upgrade: Off MSFT DB - Onto MPP. If you like infrastructure projects, this is probably a big "plus" for you, but in makes it harder to developers. Should be fixed by end of 2017. When that happens, things will be a lot easier and the work will become a lot more interesting.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in the tech upgrade. Find some way to get more natural light in the office! New CEO seems really good.

I have been working at Retail Solutions full-time

    Pros

New discretionary time off policy is a step forward - still have some internal kinks to work out
    The people are fantastic
The flexibility of working remotely is a major selling point
The new leadership seems to be heading in a better, clearer direction

    Cons

Current processes make changes take far longer than they should. Thankfully many current processes are under review, or the foundation for change is in being rolled out

I worked at Retail Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great HR and Great CEO. The new CEO will take the company forward.
Big shop for Tableau - if one is interested in learning it.

    Cons

Old Technical stack like Java/ Struts / EJBs etc and relational databases.
No layer for Javascript or pure front end.

Old engineering leadership doesn't have exposure to latest trends in the industry and they are buried under their old monolithic applications and its support that they have hardly visited their 10-year-old codebase.

Engineering leadership has old timers who have no clue of API driven loosely coupled distributed systems and is very reluctant to invest and divest into new ideas.

Beware - This company is very short on liquidity, therefore if you are making good salary - you will have to prove your worth every day in and day out. They make you sign a 90-day conditional offer and every day you will be evaluated.

Eventually, no matter what is your output, the comparison tends to be with salaries in China or India and you might be removed from Mountain view.
So what's the point of hiring in mountain view?

    Advice to Management

If you want to develop in-house applications with custom logic give some time to developers to code.
Also please think about why there is so much employee churn in the company?

    Pros

With the "changing of the guard", we now have a new CEO who have communicated to the staff clear goals as to where the company is heading, how we're going to get there, and what our challenges are. He is straightforward and definitely commands respect when he speaks because he tells it like it is. Company communication has definitely improved!

    Cons

Some staff members are still used to the "old way of doing things" and are slow to gravitating to the new processes being put in place. But they have to understand that changes are needed and they will get left behind!

    Advice to Management

Continue to show transparency and continue to communicate -- whether it's good news or bad news. That's how trust grows.

    Pros

    Flexible working hour
    Nice Engineering culture
Use the technology to a very deep level

    Cons

The technology set of the product is not very up-to-date.
Use some programming language heavily which is not widely used outside

    Advice to Management

May need to have a plan to update the technology stack to up-to-date technologies
Maybe not a good timing for now, but need to consider it in the future

Credibility - Some clients will view a Limited Company in a more positive light.
Going with a Small Company Has Large Rewards.
    EARN GREATER RECOGNITION FOR SUCCESSES

    Cons

The downside is that if things go badly and expectations aren’t met, and if the bottom line is negatively impacted, you’re an easier scapegoat.
