I have been working at Reynolds American full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company cares about your wellbeing. They spend time and money on every individual employee's coaching and development. They help you put a development plan in place in order to help you grow in your job and career. There are many classes’ available and tenured employees to help you along the way. I came to this company ten years ago from the private sector and have never been happier with a job. This was my 6th job out of college and I already had something to compare to. The pay is excellent and there are many extra benefits to working here including a focus on work life balance. You earn your promotions here through hard work and accomplishments - not time in position. I like that.

    Cons

Healthcare is average - out of pocket maximum for individual and family is pretty high. Above average for the industry but not as good as it used to be. You will be hard pressed to find something better with a similar company so it is what it is.

    Advice to Management

Continue the focus on your people - your most important asset. This started when Susan came back to the company and needs to continue when she retires. Moral has never been higher even as people have been busier then ever.

    Pros

RJ Reynolds consistently invests in their employees development. The sky is the limit in terms of the wealth of knowledge you learn and how you want to advance in the company.

    Cons

The relocation options are limited based on availability for 1 position.

    Advice to Management

The only advice is to continue to coach and continue to motivate employees

I have been working at Reynolds American full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There aren't enough words to describe the benefits of working for Reynolds American. Employees are shown every day that our development and success are priorities of the company. RAI also responds to employee feedback and/or concerns with action, and ensures that as a company, it goes above and beyond to ensure we feel at home and cared about here. At RAI, I am more than just a number. In a nutshell, this company gives back. It gives back to its employees, and it gives back to the community. I could not ask for more from an employer!

    Cons

There is so little turn over, that sometimes you may have to wait a little longer for career advancement. -Which in my opinion, is also a pro.

    Pros

I've been amazed at the company's commitment to continue to focus on training and support. From new hires, to ongoing training seminars and development, the opportunities to grow are always there.

    Cons

As others have said, change isn't always a negative, but re-alignments can sometimes present initial challenges.

    Advice to Management

Continue to offer the development and support forums currently offered.

I have been working at Reynolds American full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The general atmosphere at the Winston Salem locations is amazing. Employees and contractors are highly professional, very friendly and in the atmosphere is comfortable as a result. There is a lot of emphasis on personal / professional growth, connecting to the products/people/company and inclusivity. The spectrum of talent and diversity is amazing.

    Cons

The highly regulated nature of the business can be limiting but so far my impression is that this managed very well by the leadership team.

    Advice to Management

The open door policy is great! Keeping employees comfortable on a physical and emotional level is key to productivity and engagement.

I have been working at Reynolds American full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    excellent work life balance
    Challenging and interesting work
RJR has a work hard play hard culture
Made life long friends through RJR
RJR values their people above all else. You don't feel like just a number in corporate America. They are constantly rewarding employees and reevaluating processes and procedures to make things better for everyone

    Cons

things are always changing. whether it be RJR or the tobacco industry itself. This isn't necessarily bad but it can get overwhelming.
promotion possibilities are vague and upper management isn't very transparent about these possibilities

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a better process in place to keep and develop talent.
Hiring process needs to be reevaluated. Moving people across the country for their first real job doesn't usually work out. Most people I know that have left the company was due to geography and not dissatisfaction with the job.
