I have been working at Rhythm & Hues Studios full-time

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, super high quality talent, accountable production, good management, award winning team. 401K, great insurance policy best in business, holiday events, good vacation, free lunch every Friday, dog friendly, nice offices, week off between Christmas and New Years, improving technology weekly, on growth trajectory.

    Cons

VFX industry can be fickle. Rhythm is doing very well considering the industry in general. I can see the producers working very hard for the artists.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the progress since July 2016. We really appreciate the changes and the studio is doing great. Dont hire bad apples who complain and want things to be like 1980. The business has changed.

    Pros

Top tier projects. Great artists. Great perks for artists. Transparency.

    Cons

Bloated and unresponsive infrastructure with too many middle managers. Owners invested too much in real estate and accepted back end percentages of weak features in lieu of payment. Overcrowded building that was poorly maintained (roof leaked and temps could get over 80 degrees summer.)

I worked at Rhythm & Hues Studios full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family feel, open book financials, long term loyalty.

Being a privately owned visual effects house that lasted more than 25 years was a miracle.

    Cons

Crushed by the economics of visual effects. Don't know what they could have done better/earlier, but it seems like they were extinct before they knew it.

I worked at Rhythm & Hues Studios full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Rhythm & Hues was a great place to work in it's heyday. I had the opportunity to work a great projects, even an Oscar winning movie. Nice, talented people. Great team-work. As far as I know they complied with overtime laws (where many other VFX companies do not) and offered great health insurance.

    Cons

In crunch time, very long hours, sometimes 7 days a week. There seemed to be a lot of senior management and overhead. When they went bankrupt, there were two Presidents and two Executive Producers?! Maybe if they trimmed some of the fat the company would not have gone bankrupt.
Not sure if the new owners can turn it around.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the new management - Keep the talented employees happy.

I worked at Rhythm & Hues Studios full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is a very exciting thing to work in visual effect industry. As one of the leading companies, Rhythm and Hues have excellent technology, strong leadership. The company is full of talented people. R&H even allow you to bring your dog to work. The artist may need to work overtime depending on the ongoing projects, but the after-hour are well paid. The engineering team have very balanced work load. I had happy time working there until it went bankrupt :(

    Cons

Perhaps they need a stronger business or marketing team or maybe the VFX industry is simply to competitive. Even with oscar winning technologies, rhythm and hues still can escape bankruptcy. Don't expect much about the salary or benefit.

I worked at Rhythm & Hues Studios full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Every experience I've had with R&H has been pleasant and rewarding, even during the worst of times. There isn't a studio in the visual effects industry that outshines R&H where creature/character development is concerned and they have the clout to prove it. As an employee at R&H, I was always excited about the next project and the nature of the work that I was a part of always kept me on my toes and peaked my interests. Aside from the quality of the product developed at R&H, they also take care of their employees financially and show genuine care for the well being of the individuals working there.

    Cons

Upper management is somewhat cliquey and the process by which employees are promoted is fairly ambiguous and highly political.
