    Pros

    1945 - 2012 Great Culture - People really cared about each other, the job they did and how it impacted the industry.

    Cons

    2012 the culture was lost, non-family member leadership changed all that.

    I have been working at Rich Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The work itself is challenging and there is plenty of work. Pay and benefits are fair. The company is growing and there is a lot of change.

    Cons

    Rich's talks the talk about being a great "people " company, however it comes up way short on "walking the walk" . There are a few "favorites" who bend managements ear and management listens to these managers.

    Advice to Management

    Bill Gisel does not come to the plants and does not visit with employees. He relies too much on managers to tell him a positive story about how great every thing is...

    I worked at Rich Products full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits and bonus structure were pretty good
    Most coworkers in actual manufacturing sites were great and very friendly

    Cons

    Favoritism abounds it's more about your ability to be liked and say yes to upper management and not your skills, dedication and consistent ability to deliver results. Upper management is disconnected from reality in the plants and is afraid of outside buffalo thinking, process improvements and root cause analysis

    Advice to Management

    Stop hiring and promoting the yes man and don't be afraid of the person who has the backbone to say no and tell you when your wrong when it's the right thing to do

    Salary and Benefits very good. Most associates very good.

    I think we would still be working if it wasn't for the final MANAGEMENT TEAM that we had.

    Pros

    Excellent pay. Top-notch insurance. Associates always try to go the extra mile.

    Cons

    Management does not value work/life balance at all. They want all of your time to be spent working at Rich's and will even call you in on your vacation days. The continual pat-on-the-back management is giving themselves, with a lack of knowledge (all have been brought in from elsewhere in the company) has led to poor morale. All of the problems in this facility are due to the ineptness of managers in Quality, Planning, and Maintenance.

    Advice to Management

    Spend time out on the floor with associates instead of spending money on off-site meetings and self-congratulatory events. Associates enjoy their job, but most are waiting out the incompetent managers in the front. Also, spend some money for replacement parts instead of wearing everything down until you lose money because it is completely broken.

    Pros

    It is a global company with a good heritage. They have good R&D, a daycare center on site, and a nice working environment. They consider themselves customer-focused and will go out of their way to make a customer feel at home. They pay well, and have a good bonus program. They allow employees to go part-time if they wish to.

    Cons

    Top layers of management are highly dysfunctional, and there is a lot of in-fighting that causes problems for employees. Employee surveys indicate a very high level of frustration and dissatisfaction, yet management refuses to believe it or do anything about it. Employess are rewarded for being "heros", not by performing at a consistant high level. This drives poor quality control and productivity. Top management likes to bring consultants in for every problem, not trusting his internal staff. Job advancement is extremely difficult to obtain in some areas. The company claims they are family oriented, but practices do not allow good work-life balance. Company loyalty is prized above performance - good performers are often fired because of this, which means the quality the staff suffers.

    Advice to Management

    Embrace diversity and the ideas of those under you. Listen to those you bring in to correct problems. Reward the right behavior - look for the strong performers.

    Pros

    I can't think of many pros for working for Rich Products! The great leader culture they would like to embed throughout the company is a good concept.

    Cons

    The great leader culture is a great idea, but has been poorly put into practice. It is enforced in an almost 'Stepford Wives' fashion, along with the well-known threat of 'my way or the highway'!

    There is no concept of challenging the norm, if you would like to progress within the company. Opportunity is very much based on whether you are friends with your manager, agree with every decision they make (good or bad) and socialise with them outside of the workplace.

    Management decision-making is very hit and miss. It is very much personality-based or made in an effort to get ahead in the never-ending power struggle between higher management.

    Salaries for associates are below current benchmarks. There is an annual bonus scheme in place, based on company targets. This is attainable most years, but the payments are percentage based, so the higher you are within the company the higher percentage of the pot you receive. This makes the difference in bonus between each level huge and totally abolishes any real feeling of working as a team.

    When things go wrong, people do not put their hands up and admit their mistake. If you are in the 'In-crowd', your mistake will be swept under the carpet, if you are one of those unfortunate individuals who do not socialise with your managers, you are likely to be dismissed. These poor people will often be named and shamed after they have left the building.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your associates and treat them with more respect. They are diverse individuals with different life experiences and backgrounds, and inevitably different opinions! The great leader culture works on paper. If you want to embed this culture through the company, dangle a carrot and stop wielding a big stick. Help your associates believe in the company culture and put it into practice, don't make them nod their heads and pretend.
    Show some fairness and consistency in how you treat your associates, and put some trust in them to do the right thing.
