I have been working at Rigel Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

*Great training and education, especially if you're fresh off college
    *Competitive pay and healthcare benefits
    *Friendly colleagues
    *Inspiring CSO
*High standards from managers, which is a good thing if you truly want to improve and learn

    Cons

*Many clinical trial failures, which can take a toll on your psychology
*Expect to work long hours if you have project deadlines

    Advice to Management

They try to keep you if they can (i.e. if they have money). Very inspiring and scientifically savvy people here. But a lot of times the drug industry relies on luck.

    Pros

Great learning environment. Friendly people to work with. Great atmosphere to work in. Would work with the people again if given the chance. Great benefits.

    Cons

Low funding, starting to lean more toward commercialization. Less focused on research. Not the ideal place for research and development.

    Advice to Management

None I can really think of. Everything seemed to be going well except the recent big cut of work force but I guess that was needed to maintain progress toward commercial of the main candidate.

I have been working at Rigel Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

This company cares about their employees by providing good benefits, weekly socials, and a semi-friendly working environment. In return the employees often work long hours and take pride in their work. They have retained the "small company" feel and many employees have been there for 10+ years so it feels a little like a family- that, to me, is a sign of a good work environment.

    Cons

They do not support career development - such as funding conference attendance and they do not provide training - it's sink or swim and that is entirely up to you. The higher ranking employees have an exclusivity air about them - as in they stick with their own kind - but that's probably true for most executive level people.

    Advice to Management

Provide team building exercises, encourage and fund career development activities such as conferences (for the "lower employees" not talking about the executive.)

I worked at Rigel Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Early on, the company had a reputation of honoring good science and treating scientist well
Management maintained a relative transparent governance policy
Decision making is relatively less bureaucratic

    Cons

Over the years, the company has lost a focus on good science
Favoritism has been played in key groups
The company, though young, seems to lost its vigor of innovation and discovery

    Advice to Management

Maintain focus on science and productivity
