I have been working at RightNow Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Successful company...located in Bozeman. Nice, smart people work there. Good leadership. Just being in Bozeman was enough of a reason to be there.

    Cons

Not a warm culture, not a great product, not a clear career path. No formal training. No clear picture of how our department fit in with the rest of the world.

    Advice to Management

Formal training? RNT had a ton of potential. It was good...but could have been great.

    Pros

Able to work remotely. Their customer service tool is good so you can be proud of providing service. A lot of sociallizing in the company.

    Cons

The work hours are extremely long. The culture seems to encourage long hours.

    Pros

Rightnow has always been a great place to work. The fast growing SaaS market is a good market space to be in and the recent acquisition by Oracle makes it an interesting place to work at.

    Cons

RightNow's position in the SaaS market has been limiting to it's ability to rapidly expand and grow. The recent acquisition by Oracle makes for an interesting future.

    Cons

headquarters is not easy to get too, many competitive threats, understaffed for the many opportunities, Culture incosistant across locations, the organisation is very political and Bozeman centric

    Advice to Management

Overall good leadership and rethink compensation strategies with global market in mind, it needs to be more competitive with other markets.

    Cons

Sub-standard pay and higher than normal employee churn

    Advice to Management

Rethink compensation strategies with global market in mind (Developers can work from Bozeman for firms anywhere in the world). RNT needs to be more competitive with other markets.

    Pros

Many lead developers and managers have been promoted from within, they know the code base inside and out.
    Nice work environment
    Good benefits
Tend to keep up with the latest technology

    Cons

Many lead developers and managers have been promoted from within, they have very little/poor management skills.
Many leads and managers are very buddy/buddy, it leads to a culture where you can't complain to upper management because they are personal friends with the management between yourself and them self.

    Advice to Management

Encourage middle management to keep personal and business relationships separate. Executive level management encourages an open door policy, but in reality this doesn't work due to the relationships between middle managers.

    Pros

    Good Product "CX"
    Friendly Work Environment

    Cons

The "cowboy" mentality of Montana has to go if they are to grow into a true professional technology company under the Oracle umbrella

There is a lot of nepotism, which is probably par for the course when your HQ is in a small town in Montana.

Too much "inbreeding". peole have been with the company too long. As a result, they lack ideas and knowledge outside the scope of the RightNow environment. They need to hire more from the outside and recognize that staying with the same company for most of your career is not a good thing.

    Advice to Management

Bring in new people, recognize the need to manage people out of their positions when they have been there beyond 5 years. They need to gain a broader level of experience. Train senior management in how to manage people with a structured management training program.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Reasonable benefits, the home office is in Bozeman MT, which as a lot of outdoor activities that may appeal to many.

    Cons

Specifically, the Professional Services organization is driven by customization requests. Therefore every hour is accounted for as billable or non billable. Your supervisor gets their bonus based on their employees utilization of billable hours. Your vacation time is considered non-billable, so there is a penalty for taking too much vacation as it may diminish your personal bonus. This drives the culture of NOT taking time to explore innovation, help co-workers, or develop customer relationships (as you are just a resource that has 8 hours open today). All of this on top of a very heavy process makes for an unsatisfying job.

    Advice to Management

You seem to be doing a good job getting the stock price up, but you may have a problem with keeping your workers when the economy picks up.

    Pros

Professional place to work with some fantastic people across the board. Good benefits and base salary, and for sales the kick-off event and president club is great.

    Cons

Sales compensation package is weak, and is not tied to the job that you do. Can be a bit of conflict between the sales and professional service teams. The business is supported by its existing customer base but no recognition is given for the work needed to support this. Quota is very high.

    Advice to Management

Award people for the actual jobs they are tasked to do rather than have a generic sales compensation policy. Create opportuntiies for advancement within.
