    Pros

The leadership in my department was very organized and efficient. It was very clear what was expected of you and what you had to do to get the job done.

    Cons

The lack of effective leadership and constant loss of high level administrative positions kills any chance the college has at making a recovery from years of bad leadership and institutional missteps.

    Advice to Management

Focus on recruiting new students that are outside of small town USA and try to make the college more diverse.

Make sure you set and adhere to realistic recruitment goals that increase you chance of getting more students in the door.

Stop hiring staff that do not commit to the colleges goals and fire those that contribute to institutional inertia.

Get rid of the good old boy network and stop covering up past mistakes. You are not as good at hiding the colleges faults as you think you are, and people outside of the college (potential students and their families) are fully aware of what is going on, even if you think they are not.

I have been working at Ripon College full-time

    Pros

Small liberal arts college. Faculty and most of students take academic contents seriously, most of school staff are nice, and the school has a high faculty to student ratio. Faculty members have campus-wide meetings of academic governance every month. Young faculty would have chances to participate in different career development workshop once in a while.

    Cons

The school is suffering financial deficits and has been eliminating programs along with their faculty members. The college town is very boring, with a lot of business running down. The township is not diverse in demographics and cultures.

I worked at Ripon College (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are genuine and always concerned about each others wellbeing and growth. I couldn't think of a better place to work.

    Cons

Isolated location, lacks the conveniences of city life, driving culture with no form of public transit.

    Advice to Management

    Open up more positions.

I worked at Ripon College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You have the ability to choose your hours, gain customer support experience while working on students' computers (and campus computers), and gain experience if you have to pack and unpack leased computers. You may also get to work with Mat (and the other staff members). This has the potential to be the most rewarding campus job in terms of environment and pay.

    Cons

Tasks may seem repetitive. You may have slow days. Paper cuts may occur. Mat may not be in the office. You may have to pack and unpack leased equipment.

    Advice to Management

When possible, give the student assistants the opportunity to work on college computers, printers, etc. I used my previous experience as examples in job interviews.

I have been working at Ripon College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some quality people work here. The work environment is generally very relaxed and free from cumbersome policies and levels of bureaucracy. Nice little college town. Beautiful campus setting.

    Cons

Very little forward vision or leadership. Poor business practices. The marketing department is too small and underfunded. There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of what drives students to this institution. Older professors and leaders seem to suffer from a narrow perspective about the larger college landscape and what their college needs to do to compete in that landscape.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the physical campus. Invest in the student experience- athletics, dorms, library, student union.
