I worked at Ritchie Bros. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is opportunity to grow within the company if you're willing to work hard. The health insurance is very affordable and good. If you work hard you will get rewarded.

    Cons

Work life balance doesn't exist. You have 3 months to fill up a yard with equipment and after that auction is over you have to do it again at least 5 times a year. When the year is over you look back and wonder where did the time go.

    Advice to Management

Support your salesforce without micromanaging. When almost every TM has quit due to one RSM that should send red flags to HR. Reward your top producing TM's. At risk deals shouldn't go against the TM. Change your bonus structure. TM's should be paid 21 days after auction too!

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

The internship program provides a great variety of training and experience. It covers sales and presenting to customers, operations and supply chain knowledge, and you learn to operate all sorts of heavy machinery. They are also very flexible with working around your school schedule making it a good opportunity for college students.

    Cons

When there is an upcoming auction you will be expected to work the weekends leading up to it and fairly long over-time days. These only happen every few months however. You will also have to do a large amount of cold calls to help build the sales, which can get very repetitive and tiring.

    Advice to Management

Have a more detailed training plan for the internship program.

    Pros

A business pedigree that was built over decades with trust and integrity.
Sales tools to put you one step ahead of the competition.
    Great camaraderie amongst team mates.
Run your territory as if its your own business.

    Cons

Work/Life balance is always a struggle. This can be a 24/7 ordeal.
Orange sale day shirts!!!!!! Oy Vey!!!!

    Advice to Management

Let's get back to what built this company.......Relationships, not reports.
Continue to promote from within. You should see a jump in moral.
Our culture is still strong. Let's not jeopardize it.

    Pros

still felt like a family owned company grade building great benefits despite being publicly owned it never felt that way fun fun place to work!

    Cons

sometimes project deadlines made for long hours also there were too many meetings sometimes

    Advice to Management

senior-level management should be visionary and leading the company and not just getting their hands dirty in the day to day.

New executive team is moving the company in the right direction, with emphasis on diversifying solutions for customers. Great people.

    Cons

As the leader in used equipment sales in the world, the competition is hungry to take some away. Keep looking forward.

    Advice to Management

Continue driving the organization to innovate and take advantage of the amazing people that are driven to stay dominant in the space.

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. full-time

    Pros

Great people, good work environment. Fun, most of the time. I believe the management team is starting to improve, time will tell what their success is. Flexibility. Benefits are top notch. Opportunity to grow is huge!

    Cons

Work life balance - it's said that this is on each individual themselves, but based on the compensation structure, anyone that is driven will burn themselves out. Compensation is definitely not in line with the industry in the USA.

    Advice to Management

We are losing good employees due to compensation, please make this a priority before we lose additional stars that are on the fence waiting to see if management will fix the problem. Follow through with development. If you have a manager that doesn't know anything about development, they are not a manager. While pursuing new ventures, don't forget about the principles that built this company. Keep pursing, but be careful.

I worked at Ritchie Bros. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and experiences of the company are great. Auction day is like a sporting event with a lot of excitement. Good opportunities to travel and make overtime pay.

    Cons

Work life balance can be challenging. Expect to work at minimum 2 weeks straight prior to sale day with potential of long hours depending on size of sale. The company is all about sales and operations team can be left out in cold on customer issues.

    Advice to Management

Have better training environments other than conference calls for operation positions

Smart teams and people working on diverse projects. As my team keeps growing I can develop my skills. Compared to my previous company my manager gives me the time I need to learn.

    Cons

A lot of meetings and reporting. Sometimes direction is unclear.
