I worked at Ritz Camera Centers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There were many great people who worked at the original Ritz Camera. It was both a technical and creative place to work, with many talented photographers working there.

    Cons

Upper management became very desperate and demanding after going through bankruptcy. Everyone was completely micromanaged. Using vacation time was frowned upon and discouraged.

    Advice to Management

None. The company is long gone. The few RItz Camera stores that exist today and Ritz Camera on the internet are the same as the old company in name only.

    Pros

Loved working with everything Photography plus showing people how to get more from their photos.

    Cons

Petty store manager, refused time to rest feet from standing all day. Held to very short breaks. Just a bit inhuman compared especially from working for more generous companies.

    Advice to Management

Watch your store managers - or you can loose good people.

    Pros

I worked here part time for about a year and a half. The employees know a lot about cameras and photography in general. I think the company put a lot of pressure on its employees to meet certain sale goals. I suppose this is a good thing, but it was stressful.

    Cons

I left the company a few months before it filed bankruptcy. To my understanding some of the people who stayed until the end, weren't getting their paychecks for the last few weeks but maybe they got them late. It's unfortunate that this company as well as other photography companies have had to close down in recent years. I don't think it has to do with the management or anything. I think it's likely due to e-commerce competition like amazon.

I worked at Ritz Camera Centers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Perks (2 out of 5 stars), Bonuses (4 out of 5 stars), medium to strong company values (4 out of 5 stars), office culture (3 out of 5 stars)

    Cons

Office Culture (great, everyone was very helpful, depending on the CORP department); leadership (2.5 stars ouf of 5); time office policies (4.5 out of 5 stars). This corporate culture (at the Ritz Camera & Image, LLC, Beltsville HQ) was intense.

    Advice to Management

When you are up against the wall, consider looking at the office culture; my experience with all departments was great, from the executive offices to the people in Customer Services (especial the managers); however, information should be shared (from a "need to know" perspective") so that those employees who have been with the company and have a management role shares the information with all managers (even when they don't want to due to the reorg.) People don't like change, but this should not affect their behavior where they risk and jeopardize the operations of the company.
