I worked at Ritz-Carlton as an intern

    Pros

Met great people who became life long friends.

Learned a lot about the hotel industry.

    Got to experience NYC.

    Cons

No structure to the internship program.

Managers throw you around to different departments because they don't have anything for you to do.

    Unpaid... NYC is expensive.

    Advice to Management

To create an actual program with more direction.

    Pros

A prestigious name, world wide opportunities

    Cons

Physically demanding, high expectations without the compensation. Must rely heavily on tips to earn a decent wage. Guests pay exorbitant rates, tip very little.

    Advice to Management

Increase the hourly wage for all departments.

    Pros

Good benefits. Wonderful co-workers at the resort. Management talks about improving employees work life...waiting to see outcomes.

    Cons

Low wages. Many work long shifts and stand for long hours- this is not taking care of our "Ladies and Gentlemen".No OT alllowed. Performance reveiwing is all over the place; differs depending on department and manager.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at Ritz-Carlton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The travel and health benefits were great. Hotel provides complimentary lunches.
Ability to create memories for guests & ensure their satisfaction. Meeting people from all over the world. Diverse company with over 200 different nationalities.

    Cons

Far too many "managers" within each department that do not hold the same values & standards. Employees hard work goes unnoticed & you get a "first class" piece of paper for creating memorable experiences & guests for life, while the company sits on millions and Front Desk Agents get paid a measly $13/hr.
Far too quick of management turn over and company does not promote within but rather hires from the outside. Employees are overworked and unappreciated. Tenure and dedication to the company does not matter once you make a mistake in the system, you are let go. As a courtesy you're given a choice to quit or be fired. How thoughtful.

    Advice to Management

    "They know best"
