I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

    Work-life balance is good here

    Cons

The company seems to be going in the wrong direction. A lot of great employees already left. Pay is not competitive. Employees are not given room to grow professionally.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees that truly add value to the company and remove those who are no longer productive.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are usually great to work with and everybody is very accessible.
Everything is so chaotic that there are plenty of things you can pick up and do.

    Cons

The company's direction was very hazy before I left.
The company pays fairly badly. There are no bonuses and no stocks. The base pay is on-par (in some cases) with industry standards but at Riverbed, base pay = total compensation.

    Advice to Management

Please fix the pay system. There are so many companies in the bay area that pay so much more. It will be impossible to attract great talent with the kind of pay system Riverbed has as of now.

If there is a grand vision for Riverbed, it is completely lost in translation. I don't believe the company has yearly or quarterly goals that get communicated to everybody.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Employee friendly culture
    Creative product teams

    Cons

Hyper focus on short term revenue
    Broken Sales process
Core legacy product not nearly as relevant as it used to be
New products don't work well at all
    Disjointed product portfolio
    High employee turnover

    Advice to Management

Define an impactful corporate point of view and strip down the product portfolio to match. Ensure the remaining products are top quality, and invest in a solid, streamlined marketing strategy. Consider spinning off the APM portfolio and/or licensing the WAN op technology to other vendors. Finally, take a look at the revolving door for employees.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

Great Company, Great Culture, Solid Future

    Cons

Clean out average sales reps/managers with over inflated "worldwide" titles many are just bs artists, hanging on with no work ethic, soaking money out of the company, "playing the game". Some with pyschological problems creating dysfunction within the company.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the non producing middle sales managers who are just managing up, "saying the right things", along for the ride.
