I have been working at Riverbed Technology as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

ISR's are great and easy to work with (depending on territory). SDR manager is AWESOME!

    Cons

No room for growth. Budget for SDR is VERY limited. No bonuses or commissions.

    Advice to Management

Don't let good talent walk out the door. look into hiring a full time SDR team inbound/outbound.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Through acquisitions and innovation, have set themselves up to take advantage of market trends in the next 5 years

    Cons

They hired incompetent first line management for the major account sales /NW. Major accounts should be where you put your best and brightest, not where you place a micro managing, dull witted uninspired automaton.

    Advice to Management

Have some clue what first line management like this does to a team.

I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

Great people, great portfolio, great culture and work-life balance. Pay and opportunity are on par with industry.

    Cons

Strategic and tactical outlook is concerning. Acquiring companies but are we solid in what WE do before adding other companies capabilities? Some disconnect between outside sales teams and our inside counterparts, creating confusion and muddling the Riverbed/Customer relationship.

    Advice to Management

We need to focus more on what we are really good at and ensure that we are healthy there before we start trying to change the entire industry with SD-Wan. We are losing to competitors and to ISPs offering lower cost bandwidth and our value prop seems flat at this point. We have the right products and people, we just need to execute properly.

    - If you are working on Steelhead or SD WAN you are golden
    - they have policies to take care of employees and do some things here and there.
    - great people - entire products are standing because of individuals

    Cons

    - Integration of companies it bought into mainstream Riverbed has been extremely horrible
    - three years ago when I joined, it seemed like they had a clear vision, today Riverbed seems lost

    - make sure employees that come in through via an acquisition are treated well and integrated well
    - focus on employee growth

I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

Good people and good culture that is fast slipping away
    Work life balance

    Cons

Going private is slowly destroying the company.
The primary focus now is cost ; cost reduction and associated metrics at the expense of the core business.

This has an impact at all levels of the organization. Company has trouble hiring and keeping good talent as the pay is no longer competitive.

The sole goal now appears to be about making the company look pretty for a sale down the line so that the private equity owners can cash out.

    Advice to Management

It's great people and a great product that made Riverbed a success.

Do not skimp on the product design/development in the rush to be first to market or be in a market segment that would make the company an attractive candidate for a sale/IPO.
