I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

Contrary to popular beliefs, the move to SaaS applications and direct-to-net provide great opportunities for Riverbed.

Solid technologies that, if applied correctly, could make the company great again.

    Cons

Disproportionate amount of resources allocated to the SteelConnect product while the product only brings in a tiny fraction of the revenue.

For a company of this size, there's far too much politics involved.

    Advice to Management

Stop the myopic view of betting everything in SDWAN. While SDWAN is important, there are other products in the portfolio that could be generating a lot more money for Riverbed. Also, consider a change in personnel when things are not moving in the right direction.

Cut the red tape and allow the company to truly innovate once again.

I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Challenging, Large and diverse portfolio, dynamic environment, great people, good combination of company size not too big but not too small

    Cons

Not ready for services creation, the business is run by the business units, portfolio is geared to end customer but no consideration for the partner, private company with no transparency to limited stock program

    Advice to Management

transparency is the value of any stocks, difficult to recruit and retain talent when there is no insight to the value of stock options. Career pathing especially for channels engineers is very limited. Channels poorly treated and considered

I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

    - There's a healthy work life balance. That does not imply there's lack of work, just means it's up to you on how much you want to contribute and learn.
    - There are some great minds you can learn from and some great opportunities you can find in the chaos.
    - Riverbed has a good product strategy and if you are focused enough to make it happen then get on board; If you are someone who lets others do it for you, then stay clear of the company.

    Cons

    - Base compensation is good, but cash bonuses are very rare (not to say non-existent).
    - Equity is provided but there's always a 50-50 chance with equity, which is the same as anywhere else.
    - There are some mediocre employees, that you just have to stay clear of.

    Advice to Management

    - Refuse mediocrity and give more importance to tangible results more than hearsay testimonials.
    - It's hard to identify true talent, but you have to in-order to succeed. There are several ICs who are functioning as managers and several in management who are better off as ICs
    - Riverbed has a great product strategy , that just needs strong players to implement in all BUs. Award individuals who can work as team players and deliver success.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great. Hard working, friendly, understanding. Mid and Lower management was great, in my experience. I felt well taken care of and protected from political BS. Lots of flexibility to move around to different parts of the business.

    Cons

The company feels a bit stagnant sometimes and we're now trying to compete with some heavy hitters in a space that is hard to break into.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, I think everything is looking ok. I think it's already on the radar, but we need to get more sales to make more money! The product is only getting better and better.

I have been working at Riverbed Technology full-time

    Pros

Great work-life balance, people are very nice, great office environment, very good benefits, free class both online and in person.

    Cons

The energy is not there anymore, people are leaving and big titled people are leaving, and a recent layoff occurred. Also, the CEO is not very engaging with staff, which makes him appear arrogant. Salary is low, and no bonus.
