I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting technology, decent management (though they did go through some restructuring with the acquisition/going private), awesome benefits.

    Cons

Less of cutting edge innovation than some would like in a silicon valley company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    It was good before privatization!

    Cons

All is lost now. Almost all the wonderful people quit after it became private. Almost everyone in the company are now new hires. Riverbed used to be know for its people, now its a mess. No stocks/options. The work is terrible. Managers and upper management could not care less. Managers do not have an even little technical knowledge. Talking to them is like talking to HR. Hard workers are not rewarded nor heard. People are least motivated. They have lost market share and competitors are doing much better. The list goes on.

    Pros

World class products, world class post sale tech support, fantastic customer satisfaction, well received technology (optimization only) which leads the market. Great market share.

    Cons

WAY to much turnover due to the company going private last year and going thru a severe reduction in force leading to customer confusion and internal strife. No equity due to how they formatted the privatization (except execs). No celebration for new wins/logos - just another 6 figure deal, where's the next one? No care for anything except driving a number 24/7. No mid nor VP level relationships with customers. Core market shrinking, selling powerpoint slides for the rest of the products.

    Advice to Management

At least act like you care about the people who work for you. Give employees the tools and training to become better at their given assignment rather than just say 'go do this' with no direction. Figure out a way to distribute stock - this is silicon valley which makes this imperative. Don't take people for granted - they are people not numbers. Develop at a much higher speed or lose to the competition in sdwan, monitoring, and remote storage spaces or sell them off. Do something/anything in your commitment to your channel (read 'apply some budget to activity).
