    Pros

    Work / Life Balance
Genteel nature of office / co-worker relationships

    Cons

    Lacks strategy
In a funk - can't figure out how to grow
Poor ethics - treats employees like cattle

    Advice to Management

Riverbed was a great place to work when we were on a growth trajectory in the WAN optimization space. The only problem is that was a decade ago....

    And then the Internet happened.

Since then, Riverbed has been dabbling in SD-WAN and doing things like acquiring WiFi companies and trying to glue that story onto SD-WAN ---- as if somehow that is going to turbocharge growth.

I won't get into here, but I saw some serious ethnical violations in my last few years at Riverbed - especially after Thoma Bravo bought it and revenue targets were missed by an ever increasing margin .... run --- don't walk from this place. You can do WAY BETTER.

    Pros

    - There's a healthy work life balance. That does not imply there's lack of work, just means it's up to you on how much you want to contribute and learn.
    - There are some great minds you can learn from and some great opportunities you can find in the chaos.
    - Riverbed has a good product strategy and if you are focused enough to make it happen then get on board; If you are someone who lets others do it for you, then stay clear of the company.

    Cons

    - Base compensation is good, but cash bonuses are very rare (not to say non-existent).
    - Equity is provided but there's always a 50-50 chance with equity, which is the same as anywhere else.
    - There are some mediocre employees, that you just have to stay clear of.

    Advice to Management

    - Refuse mediocrity and give more importance to tangible results more than hearsay testimonials.
    - It's hard to identify true talent, but you have to in-order to succeed. There are several ICs who are functioning as managers and several in management who are better off as ICs
    - Riverbed has a great product strategy , that just needs strong players to implement in all BUs. Award individuals who can work as team players and deliver success.

    Pros

The people are great. Hard working, friendly, understanding. Mid and Lower management was great, in my experience. I felt well taken care of and protected from political BS. Lots of flexibility to move around to different parts of the business.

    Cons

The company feels a bit stagnant sometimes and we're now trying to compete with some heavy hitters in a space that is hard to break into.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, I think everything is looking ok. I think it's already on the radar, but we need to get more sales to make more money! The product is only getting better and better.

I worked at Riverbed Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Riverbed continues to employee talented, smart, and dedicated women and men that are committed to seeing Riverbed return to glory, but their morale is waning. The technology is solid, but must be integrated into a true platform.

    Cons

The company's executive leadership team fails to execute. The Sales organization has failed to sell the portfolio and continually revised targets downward and then misses those.

HR leadership is toxic and highly ineffective. They fail to model the values and culture needed to foster the vibrant community that used to exist. HR leadership is ineffective and fails to model the behaviors that are needed for a healthy culture. HR gets in the way of serving the people of Riverbed. They cannot attract quality HR talent to the company and this is a major short coming.

Once Sales works out their issues, they need people who can perform and the company needs to be there to support the efforts, but without effective HR, it is a structure built on sand and will fail. Hopefully, should Riverbed be acquired, the new owners will quickly identify this gap and replace HR leadership with people who actually know what effective HR can be.

Finally, the company has let the systems and technology needed to support the business languish for far too long. The infrastructure is crumbling and requires investment. IT is ineffective, but really hasn't been given a chance to succeed. They need the proper funding to refresh technology and help the business maximize efficiencies to be effective. IT leadership is well intended, but they get defensive too easily. Their leader needs to acknowledge the areas for improvement in his org and make the courageous call in replacing the members of his team that have been coasting for far too long. They are negatively impacting organizational morale and productivity. Get a team that will perform and motivate. Then hold your peers accountable for the state of the technology infrastructure and get the funds needed to empower the business units to deliver to their potential.

    Advice to Management

Get the products integrated and into a solid platform. Align Sales compensation to sell the platform and replace anyone unable to articulate the technological advantage of the product suite. Clean house with your HR leadership team. They have failed Riverbed for far too long and need to go. Invest in your systems and infrastructure to get the efficiencies you need to be successful.

Great work-life balance, people are very nice, great office environment, very good benefits, free class both online and in person.

    Cons

The energy is not there anymore, people are leaving and big titled people are leaving, and a recent layoff occurred. Also, the CEO is not very engaging with staff, which makes him appear arrogant. Salary is low, and no bonus.
