I worked at Robert Allen full-time

    Pros

    Their fabric offerings are beautiful.

    Cons

Miserable company to work for. As the title says...actions and words do not match. HR is too involved in showroom ops and goes far beyond employee relations and benefits.

    Advice to Management

Get it together and decide what the focus of the company is.

I worked at Robert Allen full-time

    Pros

In brief, I enjoyed working with the clients and servicing their needs. The Robert Allen Group as a whole, was a wonderful company to work for.

    Cons

I was warned beforehand about the new showroom manager. What transpired in my tenure was unfathomable. The showroom manager would berate me and all employees openly in public to the clients and to upper management. Additionally, she would speak the most incredulous, defamatory, private things about the other employees. Clients routinely said that they would not visit the showroom because of the showroom manager. Sales goals were changed and she took credit for others hard work by controlling the outcome and stripping you of any cognizance. Upper management is unaware of the tactics and manipulation demonstrated by this manager. The HIGH turnover rate in this position should be a HUGE red flag for the company. If it wasn't for the manager, I would still be there.

    Advice to Management

The showroom has incurred a HIGHER than normal turnover and everyone leaves. This is a huge RED flag. Many talented, eager employees in this position have left. This is an indication of a much bigger problem. The showroom manager should be held accountable for her opprobrious behavior.

    Pros

Overall, I really enjoyed the people. I liked my boss at the time. However, she left unfortunately. I enjoyed my team at the time. It was the best work team I have ever experienced. Great camaraderie. But then everyone eventually left for better opportunities. I enjoyed my clients.

    Cons

There was such a disconnect between the new upper management and our showroom. Also, the new showroom manager was horrible. She would change my sales quota in the middle of the month when it was all set at the end of the previous year. She gave away the food gifts that were given to the staff and put it out for the clients to eat. Who does that? Just to save a dime here and there. Moreover, she would berate us on the phone to upper management while we could hear her. She did not respect us at all. She clearly was all about covering herself and keeping her job. There were no checks & balances w/ this showroom manager. So she would just lie to upper management. She would also take credit for everything. Hence there were MAJOR reasons why I was urgent to leave as soon as possible.

    Advice to Management

When a showroom has such HIGH turnover and all of the staff leaves one by one, then isn't that a big clue about where the problem lies. You really need to understand and ask the showroom teams what they need.
