I have been working at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of free time, free to plan your schedule and you are trusted with company tools and secrets. Pay is decent

    Cons

You will always be a temp. They promise when you are hired that it will be for a limited time, but i and many others have been there for over 2 years

    Advice to Management

Hire people on, its ridiculous stringing them along

I have been working at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Plant still operating, and expanding. Hiring more people. No one hurt bad. Safety is a big concern at this plant.

    Cons

Not enough appreciation for employees. New hires getting more advantages than older. No communication between supervisors and employees. Human resources is a joke. Never have time for employees. No support system.

    Advice to Management

Christmas bonuses would be outstanding. More support for questions regarding machines. Just act like it's more about the associates and not money.

I worked at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    My team was great.
Opportunity to use my German language skills.
Company has a very rich history.
This would have been a dream job if I had a different manager.

    Cons

Lots of processes that aren't necessary and managers will not help you get people to respond to you!
Very political environment. Your manager is not looking out for your interests.
My manager was rather abusive to my team and me. I was yelled at because I was crying during my lunch - my father had passed away. I don't show emotion like that at work very often but come on! My father died!! (My manager was not German btw.)

    Advice to Management

I was raised by Germans. The problem is not German culture. I think Mt Prospect needs to be MORE German. The culture at Mt Prospect is very abusive and the abuse is permitted.

I have been working at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are impressed with the name. Very laid back office wear and they provide all office supplies for you. Like a company should

    Cons

You work with a lot of older people who are very close minded to the new ways of the 21st century. There's a lot of opportunity where the company can grow. Hard as an intern because there's an end date for you and the US office is controlled by HQ in Germany which puts a headcount on employment. Don't expect to get hired.

    Advice to Management

Be open and try not to discourage your interns even on their first day. You'd be surprised that the things we're learning in school is actually far more advanced than what you do at Bosch.

I worked at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for an internationally recognized company.

    Cons

Little understanding of the socially driven economy. Abusive managers, with repeated complaints filed against them, are not mentored or moved from their positions. Highly competitive environment hinders collaboration and productivity. Archaic employee management systems are a major roadblock to training, much less career growth. Highly sexist environment where all women work in administrative and brand roles. Most importantly, unless you're an engineer, you're discouraged from playing with power tools.

    Advice to Management

Stop telling people they are lucky to work there. You're lucky to enjoy your position on the shelf but it wont last long.

I worked at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Low headcount, so the potential to work on different projects
Strong parent company, although not much of a focus on US

    Cons

Not much potential for advancement if you're not German or in a sales-focused role
    Very slow to adapt
Don't replace lost employees, so existing employees have to pick up the slack

    Advice to Management

Don't be so focused on bringing Germany to the US market - both products and management

    Cons

Unfriendly environment. Knowledge sharing is low (job protection?)

I worked at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people are very nice and generally want to do a good job. Make a good product and focused on protecting brand name.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Top leadership rotates from Germany for 3 years then moves on - they don't care about long term success of North America. Focused on busy work on metric charts that aren't reviewed or used to make decisions. CFO has unclear moral compass.

    Advice to Management

Get something done. Make a decision, on time.
