I worked at Roche as a contractor

    Pros

Good place to learn the development ethics, culture and system... and then move out.

    Cons

One Story I want to begin with here:
A while ago in Summer 2016, Roche Pleasanton decided they are going to stop the paper cup system and encourage employees to get their own coffee mugs and for a limited time, they offered cupcakes and a "Time to Marketing" small blue coffee mug which was a great thing... months later in December 2016, those coffee mugs disappeared from our desk spaces, without a notice and some one just grabbed them out from the employee work spaces and no one was informed.. which was very unethical, believe me! Next day, they were washed, dried and stored in the Roche Cafeteria space... couldn't believe it. Why give it for free when those things would be stolen anyways? Thats the Major thing about this Pleasanton office... Something is fishy!

    Other Cons:
    - Necessary jobs are not created but unnecessary ones are mostly full time jobs and no job growth
    - Micromanaging is the key here...
    - People form opinions about each other and talk against one another, odd environment
    - No growth for career

Just a big name, not worth the time and skills or energy. Terrible!

    Advice to Management

Give some time to young talents and people who want to learn and appreciate being at Roche not ones who want to waste upon the benefits that Roche gives them.. Think about it!

    Cons

-get on the right side of the politics and you'll be fine
-not for young people, mostly conservatives
-get Rocheried and ok with status quo, otherwise you're not the right fit

    Advice to Management

Stop turning people into robots, get real leaders and people.

    Pros

Good coworkers and respectful managers. People are passionate and driven. The science is good and the products are good. Not high stress.

    Cons

Byzantine management structure and artificial barriers between groups preclude efficient decision making. Up to 25% lower pay for being in a division that uses acquired companies' pay structures.

    Advice to Management

Create timeline for leveling compensation or continue to hemorrhage talent.

    Pros

Great people with a passion for helping patients. Good benefit structure and the company continuously looks to add options/items. Brand reputation in the market.

    Cons

Revenue stream continues to be challenged. Products that would disrupt the market have been pushed back on timelines. Some individuals in leadership are in it for themselves. Atmosphere has become somewhat negative due to changes in the market and reorganizations.

I worked at Roche as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have a nice new cafeteria. The fitness center is nice as well. The campus is starting to look more like German Campuses.

    Cons

They will hold you in a position for years without raise or promotion. There is too many older people that need to retire so moving up is not existence. They are loosing a lot of good quality people due to not hiring. Ever since i started 5 years ago there is talk of getting rid of people and cutting people.

I have been working at Roche full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Never get bored, always have plenty to do, salary is good, benefits are good

    Cons

Managers with decent communication skills are the exception, not the norm; work load is excessive; work / life balance is poor, because the work load is so high and timelines are seriously aggressive. Cultural values are great, but generally only get "lip service."

    Advice to Management

Hire a permanent professional coach / therapist who can work with individuals / teams as frequently as needed, to improve communication skills

    Pros

    Fairly mediocre, in my opinion.

    Cons

I get it that a company that has to deal with the government is going to be a little bit tight about new ideas, projects, and making sure they are in complete compliance. But contractors are discounted and not really involved in the discussion.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the idea that contractors have good ideas, too. In fact with their wealth of various experiences, they can probably show you quite a few new things.
