I worked at Roche full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Reasonable Salary and benefits provided.

    Cons

This company was the worst I've ever worked for in my 20 plus year career. I've done work for most of the companies on the east coast and have never seen anything like this circus. Directors and Managers that are totally incompetent and using their "power" to take advantage of their direct reports. I've seen very many inappropriate relationships while at Roche. HR particularly in Branchburg has and will be hit with numerous lawsuits for wrongful termination as well as covering up and fabricating facts. Could be a great company, but never will be.

    Advice to Management

The Swiss need to clean house. From the top down, this company needs an overhaul.

I worked at Roche full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome benefits. Great cause- you know why you get up every day. Passion

    Cons

Leadership at the VP level did not align with the people doing the work. They come up with ideas that just don't work in the real world. A lot of layers and red tape. Hard to get anything done without going up multiple layers. Lacks innovation. A lot of clicks and playing favorites. Also a lot of arguing between leaders and then putting their people in the middle of the situation- very uncomfortable.

    Advice to Management

Get down to the layer of the people doing the work and ask their opinions and then listen.

I have been working at Roche full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are great. Lots of community involvement. Ability to take on assignments overseas

    Cons

Very political environment. Often, your work is used to promote someone else.. not you.

    Advice to Management

Get your employees involved in decision making processes. Get them into meetings to listen and learn. They want to show what they can do.

    I worked at Roche full-time

    Pros

Very good benefits and vacation days

    Cons

Terrible company culture. They only focus on what you do wrong versus what you do right. No appreciation or real recognition leads to high turnover. Very little transparency.

    Advice to Management

Engage with your employees, encourage their strengths, mentor and train regularly.

I have been working at Roche full-time

    Pros

Decent money. Good Benefits. Flexible Schedule. Rewarding work.

    Cons

Poor culture. Unrealistic goals. Lack of transparency. Poor strategic direction. Senior leadership disconnected from reality. Poor market access. Lack of necessary tools to win. Lack of vision towards the future. Too many cooks in the kitchen. Advancement opportunities are posted but are already flagged for someone who has the "connections" to those already in power. Rewards are not based on results but rather on knowing the right people.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to really understand what your employees are going through in their markets. Spend less time worrying about protecting your own jobs and more time valuing the people driving business at the lowest level. When people feel appreciated and valued, they perform even better. Make changes from the top when strategies don't work out instead of shifting that blame to those at the lowest level.

    Pros

Learned a lot about the south San Francisco site ; picked up some new skills alone without training . Great if your a FTE or your family works there or if you were once there before the buyout other than that they do not scout talent nor do they care for contract employees which makes up a majority of SSF

    Cons

Contractors have Zero chances of becoming permanent ; they will not hire you no matter what . They hire contractors not for a "stepping stone" but rather to be stepped on. The carrot is always dangled but the behavior is always the same lead on. Contractors hardly get hired on . You have to know someone or have a perm FTE root for you .

    Advice to Management

External quality is by far the most unprofessional and not compliant department in terms of legal admin behavior with contractors . They throw them into one room and micro manage in many demeaning ways.

    Pros

frequent flier miles, they let you keep them. The company cafeteria is very nice with good food variety. Great stepping stone and learning enviroment.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth within certain divisions. Management team is stale and grouped to save their own jobs, not strong innovation when it comes to strategy

    Advice to Management

My advice for management is to start fresh with new ideas, new management, new marketing , new strategy

I worked at Roche as a contractor

    Pros

Good place to learn the development ethics, culture and system... and then move out.

    Cons

One Story I want to begin with here:
A while ago in Summer 2016, Roche Pleasanton decided they are going to stop the paper cup system and encourage employees to get their own coffee mugs and for a limited time, they offered cupcakes and a "Time to Marketing" small blue coffee mug which was a great thing... months later in December 2016, those coffee mugs disappeared from our desk spaces, without a notice and some one just grabbed them out from the employee work spaces and no one was informed.. which was very unethical, believe me! Next day, they were washed, dried and stored in the Roche Cafeteria space... couldn't believe it. Why give it for free when those things would be stolen anyways? Thats the Major thing about this Pleasanton office... Something is fishy!

    Other Cons:
    - Necessary jobs are not created but unnecessary ones are mostly full time jobs and no job growth
    - Micromanaging is the key here...
    - People form opinions about each other and talk against one another, odd environment
    - No growth for career

Just a big name, not worth the time and skills or energy. Terrible!

    Advice to Management

Give some time to young talents and people who want to learn and appreciate being at Roche not ones who want to waste upon the benefits that Roche gives them.. Think about it!
