I have been working at Rochester Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you want to make a difference in the lives of youth, this is a great place to work. After receiving tenure, you also receive great job security, decent benefits, and stable salary.

    Cons

You need to have excellent classroom management skills and be able to handle adversity well.

I worked at Rochester Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Working with the Teachers and students was amazing and inspiring. Most days were incredible productive.

    Cons

Inappropriate behavior from coworkers. Harassment... even after reporting it you would find yourself being the one lectured for taking them too seriously...

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    pay and benefits are adequate

    Cons

administrators play into the hands of "cliques", not a welcoming environment for new staff, poor management of students on IEPs PARENTS BEWARE, very poor morale and a sense of fear in new staff about "job security", top-heavy district with many overpaid non-instructional staff at the central district Edison building, no sight of superintendent on any campuses despite his promises

    Advice to Management

If you keep doing what you do, you will keep getting what you get.

    Pros

    Coworkers were friendly, pay rate

    Cons

There are unchecked, unethical practices being implemented by mid-level administration in early childhood; toxic leadership! Staff members are being "walked out the door" without due process or just cause.

    Advice to Management

Remember this..."How you leave others feel after an experience with you is your trademark".

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Rochester Public Schools part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

School nursing is a fun job within the field. There are lots of resources as a large school district and several jobs at different sites working with students from k-12.

    Cons

Management wasn't great. The school that I worked at struggled to keep a competent principal and the office manager was generally rude. The teachers were great though.

    Advice to Management

Maybe have regular reviews after employment or check with peers before moving people up into management.

    Pros

    Summer and winter/spring breaks off.

    Cons

Administration is disrespectful towards staff who actually work with the students. If you work in the Edison Bldg., you have it made. Otherwise, not so much.
