I worked at Rock Hill School District 3 full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice, new school building (completed in 2008) with lots of cool "bells and whistles" around the building. Great co-workers and support staff who were helpful and fun to work with on a regular basis.

    Cons

Not always looked to for answers by Administration... they assumed they knew everything about JROTC or that we instructors would simply adapt.

    Advice to Management

Allow your "professionals" who are hired to do the job inform you of the parameters of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Headquarters JROTC and the school/District.

I have been working at Rock Hill School District 3 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Rock Hill Schools have a lot to offer students and families. There are some really good programs. In two elementary schools, students take Mandarin Chinese as an elective. Chinese is also taught at one middle school and in the high schools. This district is serious about professional development for their employees.

    Cons

I was placed in a position for which I had had no prior experience. Initially, I had a mentor in that field, but she had to step aside. My new mentor wasn't even in the field in which I was teaching. I was not set up to succeed. This made my job extremely challenging.

    Advice to Management

Teachers have too many responsibilities and not enough time. This directly affects their effectiveness in the classroom.

I have been working at Rock Hill School District 3 (More than a year)

    Pros

I started out as a volunteer at India Hook Elementary when the school opened in 2007. My children have moved on to Middle and High School and I am still there. I enjoy working with the staff.

    Cons

I do not have any cons. I am only at the school for a short period of time in the afternoon. There are always cons when working kids. The kids are doing their job.

    Pros

Knowing you're impacting some really great kids in very positive ways.
Many of the teachers are truly impressive in their abilities and passion.

    Cons

Increasing class sizes, harder and harder to reach students, increasing paperwork and mind-numbing meetings.
Parents who always blame the school/teacher, and no way to really avoid them.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of about 20% of the district office support staff; they do little to improve the lives and learning of the students.
