Academia at its highest, for better or worse

    Pros

Amazing core facilities. Great benefits, especially for academia.

    Cons

Very privileged place that can be tone deaf at times. Heads of lab really run their own kingdoms and are not really subject to any real accountability so pick wisely.

    Positive experience in my lab

    Nov 14, 2019 - Postdoctoral Fellow

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Great benefits, smart community, great core facilities, nice housing close to the beautiful campus. Cool faculty club bar that serves free beer 3x a week. Experience will vary widely depending on your PI, but the university itself contributes positively to the experience.

    Cons

Collaboration is low between labs. Postdocs don't get paid a ton. Work life balance is more of a "work life blend".

Great place ... careful about the lab you join

Apr 29, 2019 - Postdoctoral Fellow in New York, NY

    Pros

Rockefeller is nice and has lots of benefits. Right by the hospital, university housing (a little noisy due to entrance to Manhattan and everyone honking all night long). There is a tennis court and 2 squash courts. Nice views!

    Cons

Your experience in with your adviser can be very different. When you get this high in academia, expect some un-compromising and non-understanding professors. I suggest interviewing the professor for personality before you accept.
