      Cons

This job propelled my scientific career - I can't think of any cons.

      Pros

Best benefits I've ever had. Decent pay. Very nice people who care about what they do. Beautiful campus.

      Cons

Too much work for the small number of people in our department. My boss never goes home and is always super stressed and overwhelmed. It's hard to see any career path forward. Technology issues are very frustrating and troubleshooting them takes up too much valuable time.

      Positive experience in my lab

      Pros

Great benefits, smart community, great core facilities, nice housing close to the beautiful campus. Cool faculty club bar that serves free beer 3x a week. Experience will vary widely depending on your PI, but the university itself contributes positively to the experience.

      Cons

Collaboration is low between labs. Postdocs don't get paid a ton. Work life balance is more of a "work life blend".

Highly competitive, elite research institute that is something of a relic of bygone days.

      Pros

Lots of institutional money, great daycare/school for families, good health benefits, beautiful campus, top notch research, lots of flexibility and freedom in terms of the direction you take your work

      Cons

Gender inequity, no diversity, something of a company town, where University controls all aspects of your life (housing, healthcare, children’s school), mafia like in their management of professional conflict, pressure and pay people to keep quiet, no ombudsman/third party arbitration.

New York City is crowded, noisy, and dirty.

      Pros

Excellent benefits, great perks, beautiful campus, nice off-campus sites, and modern and forward-looking administration.

Some positions don't pay well even though they require a high level of education; commute may be difficult coming from outside Manhattan.

Rockefeller contributes to retirement after working 2 years. Many on campus lectures to improve knowledge on various scientific techniques. Decent health benefits from employee health. Beautiful campus.

      Cons

At times highly stressful to complete experiments in short time. Not much room for advancement at Rockefeller.
