I worked at Rockford Park District part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were a lot of really good people that worked there, which made work a lot more enjoyable than it maybe could have been otherwise. I was fortunate to work for and with people that I liked, and that seemed to generally be the case just about everywhere.

    Cons

Constraints of being mostly government funded means that things operate without regard to the bottom line and that you will likely not get near your market value.

    Advice to Management

Management seemed to get comfy quick - and lose touch. Would have been nice to seen more direct invovlement.

I worked at Rockford Park District part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The therapeutic recreation department does incredible work serving individuals with disabilities in the community. Every program director I had the opportunity to work with was extremely personable and relatable. It won't take long before your coworkers become some of your best friends! It's also very easy to pick up hours in other programs you may not necessarily be assigned to work upon being hired. Overall, it's a fun, flexible, and fulfilling environment if you're willing to work!

    Cons

A potential downside might be the distance you may have to drive to some program sites. Program directors/coordinators try to be considerate of the distance you'll have to travel to work, but you might have to compromise a bit if you want to pick up additional hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at Rockford Park District part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with love having fun. There is a great work and play atmosphere. In my experience everyone was willing to help. You truly work as a team on almost everything. A lot of potential upward mobility if you are willing to put in your time.

    Cons

Though there is a lot of upward mobility, it is never known when you will get the promotion. Due to budget cuts you now must wait for someone to retire or move on.

    Advice to Management

    None

    None.

I have been working at Rockford Park District full-time

    Pros

Meaningful work, interdepartmentally collaborative, family friendly organizational values, many opportunities for professional growth, development, and training, very mission-driven organization, encouraging coworkers create a positive work environment, good benefits, responsive to citizens/customers

    Cons

Limited funding for full time employment of very deserving seasonal/part time team members, technology infrastructure lacking considering the size and complexity of the organization, most full time employees work around the clock well beyond 50 hours a week including holidays and weekends, resources are spread thin by an expectation to always find a way to help

    Advice to Management

Find ways to provide more opportunities to "seasonals" and balance the workload of full time employees, use technology to streamline processes and workload, be more strategic with partnerships, support, and the overall allocation of resources

I have been working at Rockford Park District part-time

    Pros

Very fun place to work at. They are amazing company to work for. All positive reinforcement and never dull moment

    Cons

The most positions are just temporary summer job. It would be much better if we was given offer to work year around and pay rate could be little better.
