I worked at Rockwell Automation full-time

    Pros

    Big company perks
Company wide activities and programs offered throughout the year
    Paycheck & benefits

    Cons

The culture is extremely conservative, political, stale, good ole boys club, with a rigid mentality. A culture of exclusion and retaliation seems to be supported.

Lacks diversity in middle and upper management and leadership positions.

The ID teams' management works in direct opposition to Rockwell's ethics mission and will actively use bullying tactics and/or suppress certain individuals based on personal intolerances or judgments. Priding herself on using constructive dismissal tactics to create a hostile work environment that results in employees resigning. HR seems to support this despite the high turnover and numerous complaints.

    Very dysfunctional work experience.

    Advice to Management

The people are the greatest assets to the organization.

I have been working at Rockwell Automation full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good pay, and good benefits. Facilities are fairly well kept and co-workers are generally adept. Company events like picnic and engineer activities. Mentoring activities and growth opportunities for young engineers.

    Cons

Working with old technologies, rigid mentality and culture, slow to change, progress is very slow, overly reliant on Microsoft. Processes in different groups may vary and cause conflict. Working with groups in different time zones is challenging. Some groups unable/unwilling to work toward common goal. Security and intellectual property concerns are paranoid. Security measures make work difficult. Company is so behind the competition that there is little or nothing to protect. Low water pressure -- what is with the water?

    Advice to Management

Cut the Microsoft umbilical cord. Move to more modern technologies, especially for core products. Get rid of those unwilling to change. Need common processes and vision for distributed projects.

I worked at Rockwell Automation (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment with management that cares about work-life balance. Co-ops are treated with respect and given autonomy to work on meaningful tasks.

    Cons

Working with legacy software is a critical skill for any developer, but if you're young and just starting out, it's probably in your best interest to work somewhere with a more up-to-date stack. There's understandable historical reasons for a long-running project to still be using Clearcase for version control, but no compelling reason for you to start your career doing so.

I worked at Rockwell Automation as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

After working in industries that deal with government contracts for several years it was a relief to find Rockwell Automation. The overall atmosphere of the workplace was so much better than I had experienced elsewhere. The people I worked with were knowledgeable and helpful. The on-site cafeteria was convenient and had pretty decent selections. I didn't dread going into work.

    Cons

The biggest downside was that it is located in another state than where my home is currently. The closest restaurants are about 2 miles away so going out for lunch isn't always a good option.

    Advice to Management

Keep on growing the business and consider expanding the operations to other states so I don't have to cross four states to work for you again.

I have been working at Rockwell Automation as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I continue to be impressed by the flexibility and initiative-encouraging that I've encountered as an Engineering Intern at Rockwell Automation. I've been able to define a path to travel and then travel it with the support and encouragement of my managers.

    Cons

Over-utilization. It's really easy to get involved in projects; that's, overall, good. However, it needs to be managed with discipline. Being an engineering intern has been really good and required a lot of learning in the discipline and focus areas.

    Advice to Management

Projects with more clearly defined deliverables and/or expectations.

I have been working at Rockwell Automation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Average Salary
    - Nice co-workers
    - Nice location/building

    Cons

Rockwell Automation was a decent company to work for 30 years ago. One of the best in the times when employees signed up to work at a company and never left. Today Rockwell has fallen behind many other technology companies in regards to:
    - Slow to Change
    - Outdated Development Processes
    - Outdated Business Processes
    - Stale Culture
    - Not much is automated for a company that has automation in it's name
    - The last true innovation was 20 years ago
