I have been working at Rockwell Automation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very smart people working cooperatively to solve problems. Excellent work/life balance, very flexible hours and vacation policy. Strong corporate culture of ethical behavior and diversity. This is not the white bread midwestern Allen-Bradley of the 1980s. Dual career path Engineering and Management means you don't have to be a manager to make a good salary. Competitive salary and benefits, 401K match, newer building in a suburban campus-like environment. In house fitness center, decent cafeteria.

    Cons

Pressure to get a new product out the door. Projects are sometimes inadequately staffed and those assigned have to work overtime to meet an artificially imposed ship date. "New productivity tools" often impede rather than advance productivity.

    Advice to Management

Decide what you want and stick to it. Provide adequate staffing and don't impose a finish date from the top down.

    Pros

Many talented people. Opportunity to travel. Big company benefits. Rich, proud, history.

    Cons

1980's management mentality. Tenured employees are valued over talented ones. People get comfortable and stay in manager/lead roles with no desire to improve their careers or the company. Stagnation & loyalty reigns, new employees taught early to hold their ground & fortify the status quo.

    Advice to Management

It's a fact that most people in the marketing department have no formal training in marketing. This is a recipe for disaster. Hire & promote compassionate, intelligent marketing leaders with firm campaign experience. Break up teams that don't work well together, demote leaders prone to attrition. Don't be afraid to pivot campaigns that aren't yielding positive results. Cultivate lessons from the past for future success.

Great place to work, a lot of great benefits and resources.. Flex hours and work life balance is a big +++

    Cons

Way too much politics. Top-heavy hierarchy and management. Probability of promotion is primarily on who you know and not on your skill and accomplishments.

I worked at Rockwell Automation full-time

    Pros

Clean facility, workout room, friendly co-workers, pay for performance

    Cons

Management and support functions rotate too often, large wage disparities on the shop floor, poor vision or lack of direction from management

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on realistic goals and issues within your control. Goals and metrics are only taken seriously if you know what is truly attainable. We want to learn from YOU. Continuous improvement projects are very beneficial so long as they are followed through until the end and sustained. Don't let employees cheat the QEK program, it hurts more than helps. Put a quota on individuals to avoid such shady behavior. Appreciate ALL employees. Don't push out the ones you don't know how to mentor or coach.
