Pros
Cons
  • Have to be ok living in Cedar Rapids (in 125 reviews)

  • I'd rather be an intern than full time as there doesn't seem to be much of a work/life balance once you're hired full time (in 23 reviews)

    Pros

Cutting edge technology. Positive working environment.

    Cons

Tendency to react slowly to acknowledging that systems are needed to be revamped or totally scrapped before they become a hinderance. Need to improve on talent evaluation with regards to new hires.

    Advice to Management

    Don't be afraid to change.

Lots of advantages in nature and a great team! I was an intern there and got well integrated ! I had the opportunity to come back for a summer contract

    Cons

No real cons to be signalled. I was just an intern so I did not stay there for long

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Somewhat competitive salaries, decent benefits, and overall good environment and culture

    Cons

Snail pace on progressive ideas, innovation, and career advancement or progress track

    Advice to Management

Management does surveys and has listened and made some changes and should continue, but managers need to all be held accountable and responsible for their relative staff. Career advancement and promotional incentive needs a lot of work. Very easy for a lower level employee to get boxed in and willing or not, ultimately unable to advance ones career wit the company despite qualifications and background. One of the CEO's missions was to encourage all within the company to value and promote based on employee's merit not tenure and seniority. I have yet to see this take effect. Still seems like this is an issue.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The teams I have dealt with are amazing to work with. There is definitely a common goal. Decent compensation and good benefits.

    Cons

Departmental communication is mediocre at best due to differing internal metrics. Lots of cleaning your hands once you've done your part.

    Advice to Management

Work towards bringing the vision of the product and company into the everyday lives of the different departments.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Annapolis is a great location. Employees are committed to do a good job. We support the airlines which, for me, adds to job satisfaction. I think we are a nice size, big enough to do interesting engineering and not too large to become just a cog is a big machine.

    Cons

Lot of "silos/smokestacks". Two groups working side by side not knowing what the other group does. Managers need to keep their employees in contiguous office space - 50 foot office moves not uncommon.

    Advice to Management

Give feedback during the year and not just at performance appraisal time.
