I have been working at Rockwell Collins as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance and pay. Good coworkers and efficient working environment. The company cares about what type of people they hire, not just their expertise.

    Cons

Designing for government standard can lead to a lot of reading of spec documents and usage of unconventional methods for maximum security.

Cedar Rapids is a slow town. not much here.

    Advice to Management

To get top talent try taking more business away from cedar rapids.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time

    Pros

Amazing Culture and relax atmosphere. People are down to earth and know how to have a work/life balance in a sometimes high stress environment.

    Cons

It is engineering and things can get stressful as a lot of times the bids are not very representative to the length it actually takes to design a product from the ground up leading to uncompensated overtime. However, they do a great job at catering to your needs during these stressful times with gift cards, recognition, and payed lunches and dinners.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I generally work with good people. It's a Union environment so our pay raises are fair and built into our contract. The benefits and paid time off are amazing! You'll seriously never find the amount of time off they give us anywhere else.

    Cons

No room for advancement. The job is a little tedious at times. While having a Union is great, it makes getting a promotion impossible (because it goes by seniority rather than work ethic / performance). It also makes it hard for them to fire terrible employees who would never make it outside of a Union environment.

    Advice to Management

Do more to make good employees feel appreciated and not like they're being taken advantage of when they go above and beyond.
