Pros
Cons
  • Opportunities outside of Cedar Rapids are slim (in 121 reviews)

  • I'd rather be an intern than full time as there doesn't seem to be much of a work/life balance once you're hired full time (in 22 reviews)

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time

    Pros

Honest, high integrity. Treats employees well. Does important work to keep people safe, connected and informed.

    Cons

    Process heavy
Military contractor and some long-time leaders had a command-and-control style. Needs to listen more to its employees

    Advice to Management

Communication more with employees, be more visible.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good place to work. Good benefits with 2 weeks paid vacation to start. Management can be good and bad based on area.

    Cons

Management could learn rounds from their senior employees. When fresh faces come in it's hdd sometimes for them to grasp the culture and what's all going on the shop floor.

    Advice to Management

Ask senior personnel what can be changed or fixed. Get engaged and learn the process so office and shop floor has better communication.

I worked at Rockwell Collins (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work was enjoyable, the pay was great, and coworkers were very amicable. You may think that Iowa is not where you want to live, but if you have a hobby that you can apply yourself to, then you'll love it.

As long as you do a good job while working there as a student employee, RC would love to have you back for another session, be it just a summer. Their goal is to queue individuals for full-time, anyway.

The benefits were very nice; even as a student employee, we got access to the 401k matching that RC provided, as well options for health insurance.

They provided me with the option to work overtime, so you could certainly earn more money if you wanted to put in the time. That was completely optional, though. RC provided housing for me, in the form of an apartment; the commute to work was about 10 minutes.

I only had a few experiences with senior management, and all of them were positive.

    Cons

If there were any downsides, I would note location. Winters are harsh, and summers can be very sticky. The spring was very nice. Downtown Cedar Rapids has a small amount of things to offer; it's growing as time passes, however.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing; being kind and sympathizing is one of the key things that I saw all managers being towards their employees, even when deadlines and due dates are looming over your heads.
