I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

+ Health care package is catastrophic and expensive however other benefits are above average (vision, dental, life, paid time off)
+ Leadership investment in employee development
    + Mentoring program
+ Recent effort to invest in the facilities on all the campuses

    Cons

    - Lives and dies by Boeing, Government and other large contracts. Company is not nimble when economic changes happen, always seems to be operating by playing catchup. Hopefully the B/E acquisition will help balance the portfolio
    - Continuous Improvement (RC's Lean Electronics) has been brushed aside and leadership has less and less interest to leverage it to make the company great
    - Loss of talent, can't find the right formula to keep people - lots of attrition
    - Low merit increases, if any some years
    - Pockets of ineffective leadership but not having the fortitude to make the necessary changes, small town and don't want to make the "neighbor" mad
    - Rockwell Struggles with telecommuting, most leaders like their employees to be at the bricks and mortar office
    - Bureaucracy and very political, definite pecking order that is ingrained into the culture, Kelly Ortberg is trying to change the culture but it has been very slow

    Advice to Management

    * Don't rely on your global employee survey for the pulse of the organization, get out of your offices and talk to your people, walk the halls and observe.
    * Broader focus on ALL your employees, not just Engineering and Manufacturing.
    * Think of the majority making less than $70K when making decision about benefits - Leadership with their stock options have really lost sight!

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

CEO and his staff are working hard to improve employee engagement and satisfaction, as well as our aging facilities.
Easy to move to different areas in the company.
Great people at every site I've worked with (Cedar Rapids, Richardson, Europe, Warrenton, and others).
    Challenging technical work.

    Cons

Aerospace & Defense can be a frustrating industry to work in, constant ebbs and flows in the market, policy, process, and government budgets make it difficult to get things started and, sometimes, to get things finished.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, it's making a difference!
