Pros
Cons
  • Opportunities outside of Cedar Rapids are slim (in 121 reviews)

  • I'd rather be an intern than full time as there doesn't seem to be much of a work/life balance once you're hired full time (in 22 reviews)

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy commute and nice colleagues to work with

    Cons

No respect from management. No leadership. Upper management incapable of making decisions in a timely fashion.

    Advice to Management

Look closely at your new management team because they don't have the proper experience. The problem is that there is no respect for the mission critical facilities.

    Pros

Provide many many training to help with career development.
CEO and divisional heads are pretty transparent with company's operations.
    Great co-workers.
Great perks- tuition reimbursement, health wellness $$, 401K match, company store (which offers various discounts on movie tickets, amusement park tickets etc).

    Cons

Generation gap between co-workers- The company still has many baby boomers, who can be good mentors but difficult to connect with on a personal level.

    Pros

The people here are great, and are engaged in what they do, which makes work exciting and fun. Kelly Ortberg has injected some new life and positive direction into the company. Lastly, the company has taken positive steps that have improved employee's work/life balance.

    Cons

Health benefits have steadily decreased. Pay is OK, but could be more competitive.

    Advice to Management

Continue listening to employee inputs to make positive changes at the company.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Even though it's a large global company, the culture makes it feel like a smaller place that cares about each employee. They have onsite cafeterias, day care, gyms, and wellness programs. They encourage their employees to go for higher education and even have tuition assistance.

    Cons

Overall the company vibe is great, but there are few departments or business units where morale is lower. If you're interested in working for Rockwell I would do your homework about where in the company you'll be working.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on your employees happiness and well being and you will retain your devoted and loyal workforce. I only left because I had to move out of state!

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company prides itself on having a culture of integrity, and this is no joke. They pay extremely close attention to make sure they deliver on their word. They are also highly efficient and spend lots of money and effort at developing the leanest possible processes so that it's just the way everyone thinks. The company tries to stay one step ahead in terms of technology. And the people are just nice. Highly recommend this company.

    Cons

Location, location, location. Cedar Rapids is a little far away from most of my family and is also far away from most of its nearest cultural centers (besides Iowa City)

    Advice to Management

I don't really have much advice for the management. Maybe "keep up the good work"? The managers that I had were very good at their jobs.
