Pros
Cons
  • Very large corporation -- close to 20K employees worldwide/7-8000 in Cedar Rapids (in 121 reviews)

  • I'd rather be an intern than full time as there doesn't seem to be much of a work/life balance once you're hired full time (in 22 reviews)

I have been working at Rockwell Collins (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, Interesting work, advice to new grads: good place to start, but not stay.

    Cons

Very hard to move up. Becoming more demanding of your time, work-work balance only. Poor Benefits.

    Pros

Company made good on retirement pension payments even though stopped offering to new employees

    Cons

Very much a who you know culture based on longevity with company. Good for few years as new engineer but not a place to grow.

    Advice to Management

Shake up the way teams are formed.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, opportunity to travel, opens doors when applying to jobs outside companies!

    Cons

If you are really good at your job you will passed over for promotion. Mediocre people seem to get promoted. When asked about this management appears to indicate that if I was promoted the department would suffer.

    Advice to Management

Stop outsourcing to Mexico, it's not less expensive! Management roles are not given to the most qualified!

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was former ARINC employee and Rockwell Collins employee now. RC is taking care of employee better than ARINC but there no doubt that each corporate is looking at their own benefits more than anything. I like to work here because everything is well defined and organized.
You have have every other friday off by working 1HR extra for 8 days ( Alternate Works Schedule ) which is great

    Cons

1- Salay is not really good here because there is a salary struct with Min. med and max salary based on your education, job experience and the type of job that you are doing. You cannot jump high from your current position.

2- "Big Boys Club" ( Upper management ) people are getting involved very low level implementation details with out having enough knowledge.

3- Sometimes Rockwell Collins is doing very sharp and unexpected 90 degree right turn .. such as closing eEnabled project after 7 years of development in a day.

4- There is not quality control on placing people into correct position. There are so many senior people placed in wrong position in this company

    Advice to Management

Stay away from thing that are out of your expertise

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Winter shut down, the people I worked with, flexible time off, team building, day care building was close to main campus, you could go over to spend time with kids.

    Cons

if you are not part of the inside group, you are not promoted. If you bounce the boat, you may fall out. Management is forced to meet a bottom line, not the best interest of their employees.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees like they are real people and have a family life. People are not chess pieces to be moved around.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins (Less than a year)

    Pros

OK pay, good relocation packages. Lots of opportunities to move around the company. Good work environment.

    Cons

My biggest issue is that I was not able to get on the career path that I wanted to even after switching jobs. Also, women are not treated as equals. I don't know very many women who came back to the same job after maternity leave and men are not expected to take any paternity leave. Human factors doesn't exist so don't come here for anything human factors related. Even if you are a strong performer, the raises suck. So, if you want to make money you have to move into mgmt.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees needs.

Consider external audit of IT systems and operations
Change senior leaders of eBusiness, bring in leaders from other areas within business
