Pros
Cons
  • Opportunities outside of Cedar Rapids are slim (in 121 reviews)

  • I'd rather be an intern than full time as there doesn't seem to be much of a work/life balance once you're hired full time (in 22 reviews)

I worked at Rockwell Collins as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great learning material.
    - Amazing people - they're always willing to help out.
    - They're always looking for people to stand out.

    Cons

    - From conversations I have heard from other engineers, some of the processes are in place only because of the higher management due to the many layers of management.

    Advice to Management

    - They're doing a great job as is.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was treated like a full time and the environment there is definitely a plus. Everyone I worked with enjoys what they are doing and won't give a second thought to help each other out. Plus, very easy for internal transfer between positions

    Cons

Quite alot of documentation work, but that goes without saying for most engineering jobs.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong focus on employee engagement, good career development options if you are located in cedar rapids. If you are identified as high potential you get a lot of opportunities to be fast tracked in the career you want to have.

    Cons

lots of politics. Specific people higher up have the ability to completely blacklist others and can essentially stop the progression of a person they have never met. If you don't learn who those people are and meet them early, you have no chance.
Once they get you in Cedar, they aim to pay you less than industry average.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits between vacation, holidays, stock options, and 401k. Promote from within. Several upper-leadership (including CEO) started as interns.

    Cons

Health insurance is mediocre at best. Pay is average or maybe slightly above average, but shouldn't really be a con.

    Advice to Management

Keep offering mentorship opportunities and definitely continue the morale events for the departments. Always nice to have a good time on the company dime.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time

    Pros

Focused on providing the support needed by an engineer to get the job done, with a minimum of overhead or administrative interference. Very committed to work/life balance. Compensation and benefits are excellent.

    Cons

Cedar Rapids might be considered "too rural" to some people. Salary and benefits are excellent for the area, but may not measure up to larger employers.

    Advice to Management

Don't follow the common model of "increasing shareholder value" by squeezing the employees.
Remember that your employees are your most loyal shareholders.

I have been working at Rockwell Collins as an intern

    Pros

Its a very Employee friendly company with lots of perks. Its a very good place to learn. Other Employees give lots of their time in making you understand the material and tools and gives you good references to look on. Besides paid holidays and good salary, in just my first week, I got to get good lunch almost everyday in my office as a welcome to new interns, Co-Ops and new full time hires. Nice working environment to work with lots of friendly people.

    Cons

Did not find any cons in this company.
