I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Overall Rockwell Collins is a good company to work for, they have good benefits, reasonable work life balance, and management is doing their best to make sure the employees are happy and engaged.

    Cons

Could have more benefits such as a longer paid paternity leave. Would be nice to have additional time/budget for projects/improvement outside of programs we have contracts for.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Your focus on listening to employees and helping to engage them is awesome. Glad to work here.

    Pros

Good starting pay used to have good benefits but lost them with all the buy outs.

    Cons

poor raises unless you are the in-crowd or a minority female

    Advice to Management

When Ortberg became CEO he brought a wave of ner-do-wells with him into management. He was and is not an engineer neither are any of his people. Clay Jones had systems and people in place Ortberg tore down as too costly or not invented here. As with most companies they have no measure of a manager's performance. They claim to measure engineer's performance, but they merely quantify a manager's opinion and call it performance 'measurement'. The only way to advance is know someone and not be on anyone's bad list. Non-white women are put in jobs they are not qualified to perform. Indians (HCL) and Chinese are being hired at an astounding rate but cannot do the job, most do not know English. Overall many people are taking off for lunch or extended breaks but not coming back, but since the plant is across multiple buildings the managers pay no attention. The internal politics between locations (city level) to where common goals are impossible as everyone says its the other guys fault. Case after case of sexual harassment are covered up. Replace Ortberg and fire all his cronies. The company took a 20 year leap backward

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good benefits, good salary, yearly bonuses, (sometimes) interesting work

    Cons

Many layers of management. Honesty is not appreciated unless it's what management wants to hear. As "bad news" works it's way up the management chain it gets watered down until the top management receives a rosy but false picture of what's actually going on. Then when a project misses a milestone and the customer complains they are shocked because it's the first indication that something was wrong.

I worked at Rockwell Collins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits: 3 weeks vacation to start, 5% 401k match, paid winter shutdown, flexible schedule (9-9's, flexible start times). Competitive pay. Good people to work with. Most projects are generally followed-through; funding is achievable (not open coffers, but not impossible).

    Cons

Understaffed for workload. Opportunities for lateral moves but tough to get promotions. Aerospace / large company bureaucracy & regulations make change difficult. Nit-picky internal quality audits lead to extra tasks that add little value to organization. Too many policies and procedures - many are redundant yet sometimes conflict with each other.

    Advice to Management

Drive suppliers to hold the same quality and delivery standards that we are held to. Prioritize and focus on the "real" projects that add value and customer is willing to pay for. Hire enough people to handle the workload. Simplify and standardize policies and procedures. Communicate to the employees what changes are coming from the UTC acquisition (transparency).

I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people, interesting work, and good benefits. They have a strong history of innovation and that I am proud to be able to add to.

    Cons

Pay does not seem to be on par with industry standards. Organizationally, the company still does not work well internally and that impacts work.

    Advice to Management

Listen to you engineers and give them a louder voice. DO NOT let everything be priority number one, nothing gets done that way.

"Structured, good benefits but slow and uninspired"

    StarStarStarStarStar
     in Irvine, CA

I worked at Rockwell Collins for more than 3 years

    Pros

Clear processes and hierarchy. Good benefits.

    Cons

Rockwell is a program management company driven by detailed and sometimes overly long winded decision processes. They are driven by wall street and make very rational and unromantic decisions (lack of passion fro what they do), most of the time executed in a very insensitive way.
