    I worked at Rodale full-time

    Pros

Benefits are good; however, a lot of perks have been discontinued over time. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Career advancement is a thing of the past. Change in upper management constant. Very little strategic direction.

I worked at Rodale full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family owned with a strong mission and values. Main campus in Emmaus is beautiful, with great facilities; NY office is very modern and convenient to Grand Central. For the most part achieves a friendly, casual, professional work atmosphere. Great colleagues.

    Cons

Depends on the department. Main business is magazines; if you work in another department, you may hit your head against the wall because corporate does not understand the business you work in and makes decisions that hurt your attempts to conduct business according the norms of your business. The constant stress from having to do the work of several people because the company is addicted to frequent workforce reductions creates a toxic atmosphere. I found my health deteriorating working 60+ hours a week while, ironically, working on products to improve health and wellness.

    Advice to Management

Need to create more stability (way to much turnover in the top ranks) and stop being addicted to cutting staff down below the point where any department can function properly

    Pros

Well now that the PPO plan got cut and and they're selling the gym...I guess the overpriced cafeteria?

    Cons

Rodale doesn't value it's employees. You will be paid an insulting low pay and given no raises or promotions. You are reminded by the countless never ending layoffs that you're expendable. They will fire anyone if it saves them a buck.

    Advice to Management

Maybe if you invested more in current employees you'd get that investment back. Unhappy underpaid employees will only hurt your profits long term.

I worked at Rodale full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Comfortable working environment with plenty of perks: organic meals, kitchen, gym, yoga...you name it. Nice folks.

    Cons

Certain people in management positions are horrible to work with and quite frankly, don't deserve to be in the positions they're in, yet execs still them around and sacrifice losing the best of the bunch.

    Advice to Management

Stop putting bad people in management positions.

I worked at Rodale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Family owned company that believes very strongly in leading a healthy lifestyle--eating organic food and exercising--and provides the resources for doing so. In addition, good benefits.

    Cons

Management, starting from the top, doesn't seem to be clear about which employees it wants working for its company. Upper management, and those below them, are frequently laid off. Moreover, those working at the entry level often leave the company, because their contributions are not recognized in the way of advancement or salary increases.

    Advice to Management

Do more to create loyalty to the company. Give employees incentives to want to stay working at Rodale.
