I have been working at Rogers Enterprises part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Family owned = Family feel
Emphasis on personal performance NOT store performance
Ability to build your personal brand as a sales professional
Make friends for life (coworkers & guests)

    Cons

Mall hours are rough, especially for management.
The home office closes at 5 when most stores are open until 9 so it's hard to get ahold of people from home office in the evening

    Pros

Working hard in commission based sales is very much so like rewarding yourself for a job well done. Control of your numbers and business, consistent leadership and management. Company provides frequent "fun" contests to allow employees the opportunity to earn additional bonus's.

    Cons

Little traffic can impact income. Your sales reflects your income and bonus

    Pros

The best reason I can think of to work for Rogers & Hollands is to make someone's dreams come true. It was my customer service skills that made my experience there rewarding. I would educate the customer on fine diamonds before their purchase to make them more comfortable in the fact that they were getting the most for their money. And for the casual purchaser, I would also make them comfortable because I would treat them as a friend that I have known for years. That was the easy part. The company did offer limited training, but customer service skills just come naturally to me.

    Cons

Returns hit your commissions, so that if you have a habitual "returner," you won't make any money. You have sales goals, and the returns go against your sales goals, sometimes hurting you even though you had big sales.

    Advice to Management

My advice to Management, pay close attention to your sales staff, and offer training instead of a write up for silly things like returns. If you would re-educate your staff from time to time with refresher classes, especially on security protocols, this might boost morale and perhaps sales. No one likes to get written up because they couldn't make their sales quota, and this practice does nothing to help your staff.
