    I worked at Rokkan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Rokkan is a great place to work in a lot of respects. They do good work, it's very much a family environment, and everyone works very hard. The perks are great... Free food, team building drink fests, and the backyard BBQ Kegger is legendary.

    Cons

    Rokkan is also a tough place to work. Work/life balance can be hard. The talent can be "precious" and need to be handled with kid gloves to keep them happy (and working.) Like all agencies, they have a hard time saying, "No" to bad work. While free food/drinks is great, bonuses are better--no amount of pizza can make up for a pay increase. And some members of leadership are not great at their jobs.

    Advice to Management

    It seems like you don't really care about keeping staff, which is unfortunate. You have some really talented employees, but have almost zero plans in place to keep them. The best thing you could do is pick a few employees in each discipline and do what it takes to keep them. It would make a huge difference.

    I worked at Rokkan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The senior people at Rokkan are smart, fun to work with, and good at mentoring more junior employees. The office has nice perks like free food and snacks, and the atmosphere is great - people go out to lunch together, grab drinks after work, and just get along well in general.

    Cons

    The office (which has since changed) was a little bit cramped. Everyone was working in one open space, except for the 3 members of senior management, all of which had a separate office. It was generally quiet enough to get work done, but you don't have much privacy at your work station, and being in the same space as everyone else can breed distractions.

    I worked at Rokkan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Majority of people are extremely friendly and you truly make good friends here;
    Feels like a "big family" (which is good and bad- read con)
    Plenty of free food and happy hours and overall parties - but be careful, they believe offering this is all it needs to make you happy - forget clear career development or goals.

    Cons

    Extremely disorganized.
    It's basically a high-school environment with all the drama, gossip and overall deceiving behavior.
    The same culture which is strong, is what is killing Rokkan, since the "family" approach makes it that everyone takes everything too personal.
    7/10 employees you talk to, are either unhappy or about to leave;
    "Let's rash it off with a shot of vodka" approach, even if you're trying to have some serious discussions;
    Some VPs should probably be at an entry level, but they're friends with the management team and get by.
    The only department to truly get recognition is "creative" or "account".

    Advice to Management

    Invest on your people. Your "let's party and drink all the time" will only be sustainable if you actually make sure it also follows up with professional growth and overall transparency.

    Pros

    There are a few talented people on the creative side who haven't left yet.

    Generally a light work load, so the hours are good.

    If you don't care about making good work, you can get by here easily.

    Cons

    No creative vision, heavy favoritism, lack of management and no career development for anyone who isn't personal friends of the "leadership" team.

    Advice to Management

    Think about meeting the needs of your full time staff as well as your clients and freelance friends.

    Being a part of Publicis group was a nightmare. Some coworkers care too much about being "trendy" and it created a superficial environment.

    I have been working at Rokkan (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There are some very talented people at Rokkan.

    Cons

    My overall impression of Rokkan is that it is a place that one goes to after college. If you're young and naive and have never worked for a company before, you will not notice how unstructured Rokkan is. However, if you've been around the work block, the lack of structure, inexperienced "friends of the managing partners" managers, and the frat-like mentality will not be appealing.

    Freelancers, note that you will not get paid for the first 6 weeks ( was not conveyed to me during my interview, but rather on my first day, when it was too late to say no, thank you.)

    Rokkan seems to have a culture of hiring people new to the business and treating their employees like children in a playpen. This may have worked in the past, but if you're hiring mid-level people, treat them with the dignity that they deserve and allow them to do their jobs.

    Advice to Management

    Rokkan needs to move away from a culture of having personal friends, who are not qualified, in positions of authority. You can bring in all the mid-level people that you want, but if they're road-blocked by "personal friends" and long time employees, there is not going to be a lot of the change that you're hoping to see.

    I have been working at Rokkan full-time

    Pros

    Rokkan has an amazing culture. There's a lot of friendly, talented people who really care about the work that they do. Management on the creative team are SUPER good and it's definitely clear that they've earned their title. The work is interesting and varied, there's at least one company bonding events a month, and co-workers are actually friends.

    The work-life balance is pretty good. Most people can get off at 6pm (our normal closing time), with only the occasional late night/weekend work. Extra time are generally appreciated and rewarded, not expected.

    Cons

    It's SO disorganized. The execs are so busy that they often make promises that they don't (remember to) follow through on. There's no process and everything goes by a "wing-it" philosophy. Events and reviews get pushed back a lot, sometimes for months.

    Advice to Management

    Make employee concerns, questions and complaints a higher priority and you might see a lower turnover rate.

    I have been working at Rokkan full-time

    Pros

    #1 thing about Rokkan is the culture - truly work hard, play hard. Also a good work-life balance across the board. Great place to learn and grow your career. Fun people and environment.

    Cons

    They usually throw employees right into the fire and it's pretty sink or swim. Mentorship is not strong throughout the company, you pretty much have to learn and figure things out yourself.
