  • Stable work environment (lots of 25 year-ers) there (in 54 reviews)

Cons

  • Hidebound in some of its processes; some senior management slightly too in thrall to external consultants (in 22 reviews)

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Rolls Royce Benefits are excellent - there are a lot of opportunities to move laterally - the technology is very interesting

    Cons

It is a very old boys club. Underperformers get moved around, the culture is back biting and stressful

    Advice to Management

Measure people on performance - not opinions of one disgruntled manager in a meeting. Train on the value of diversity, not just talk about it.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, work life balance and benefits.

    Cons

Bureaucratic, archaic IT systems and micro managers. Okay with being an industry follower but not the leader.

    Advice to Management

Let your talent be innovative and give them the right tools to do the job you hired them to do

I worked at Rolls-Royce (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You will get to work on some of the coolest stuff.

    Cons

Very limited room for advancement, and even more choked with recent performance.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Starbucks in the cafe' is one of the better additions, to break up the routine. Nice working downtown in a fairly new building. Beats the trash hole that was plants 5 and 8.

    Cons

Blatant favoritism by upper level management. It's weird. They talk behind peoples backs and act arrogant if they think you are not as smart as they are. Ridicule seems to be an accepted management tool. They promote completely unqualified people who know how to placate their managers rather than show they can do the work. As a result, they are at least ten years behind their competitors in terms of development and company infrastructure. The products Indy supports and sells were designed in the 1980s' that were then based on 1950's designs. Production is way down from even 5 years ago. Run away from this place if you can before it's too late.

    Advice to Management

Lose the attitude and realize you are behind in the game. Don't be petrified and snobby when faced with a change.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some truely great people to work with here.

    Cons

Horrible CYA culture. If you are not a favorite of the department manager, especially as a DPE, forget it. Your career will go nowhere even if you knock it out of the park on a regular basis. If he likes you, you're golden. If not you'll barely get a meets rating. It's bad when they have to require training on common manners (HPC training).

    Advice to Management

Forced retirements for your deadwood managers. They have been there way too long.

    Pros

We make cool things and we have challenging problems to solve.

    Cons

Innovation is being stifled in order to follow procedures. Even rational risks are being avoided for the sake of being "safe".

    Advice to Management

Find a way to retain talent and recognize high performers without putting them into a bureaucratic and kool-aid drinking system. Global leadership it too focused on large engine success. Need better focus on the future of transportation propulsion.

    Pros

    - New management is trying to transform the business for the better
    - Aerospace industry currently has a lot of interesting technology developments

    Cons

    - Highly bureaucratic culture, slow to adapt, company trusts in process rather than people
    - Internal business technology (IT) out-dated and ineffective
    - Poor financial performance means no bonus and lower than average raises
    - Career progression opportunities typically focused on the Civil Large business only (not Indianapolis)

    Advice to Management

    - Invest in business/data/IT technology
    - Reduce bureaucracy and adopt modern processes
    - Improve career progression opportunities in order to retain employees
