  • Hidebound in some of its processes; some senior management slightly too in thrall to external consultants (in 22 reviews)

    I worked at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to work globally and influence strategy of the business - although not there now it was good when it lasted.

    Cons

Amazing how much it takes to get the smallest things agreed. Not able to pick the battles- there is a "one size fits all" approach to decisions. Huge bureaucracy- no power or influence outside of the UK.

    Advice to Management

You really need to look over the last 10 years and try to stabilize again to some of those better times. Stop changing for change sake. Respect your people and your customers and stop taking things for granted.

    Pros

They pay you well, very well. They have to so you will keep their secrets.

    Cons

They send untrained mechanics who are unfamiliar with the engines to do inspections on our military bases.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to a U.S owned entity before Americans pay with their lives.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance is good, RR invest in internal training, RR encourages employees to move roles internally every 2-4 years, big focus on professional development

    Cons

Not enough diversity and lack of women in senior roles, pay rises are low, too much focus on 'cost cutting', too many decisions having to go back to the UK, too much stakeholder "buy in" and not enough direct leadership, people are not held accountable

    Advice to Management

High performers and talent will eventually leave the company if lack of financial incentives continue, stop talking about diversity and just do it

    Pros

    Excellent Pay and excellent benefits

    Cons

Micro Managed, Feels like working in a prison, people gossip and quick to tell management. Not enough diversity, you are basically a robot. If you are brought in as a temp, they keep you for 18 months or less then let you go. No personal space what so ever.

    Advice to Management

Stop micro-managing and let employees feel relaxed and not so tense. Notify employees about the constant gossiping, etc. Just an overall clean up of management.

    Pros

Great company name recognition. People immediately know the company and most know the product's associated with the innovative and high quality reputation.

    Cons

The company is solely focused on cutting costs at all costs. No planning for the future or long term goals. Everything is about today.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Profitable product lines with a long cycle. Large company with locations and customers around the world. Generally well engineered products.

    Cons

Leadership turns over every few years. New CEO's/Presidents come in and all they want to do is reorganize and reduce headcount. Very demoralizing, frustrating, and distracting. Company is so caught up in management by objective that there is no long term focus on improving processes and systems, instead, how do we sabotage the process in order to achieve some short term target.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on cutting heads to get more profitable and worrying about getting your bonus this year, instead make good long term decisions to help the company grow to become more profitable and improve quality, delivery, and cost competitiveness in the long run.

I worked at Rolls-Royce (Less than a year)

    Pros

Comfortable work environment and good work life balance. I wasn't dragging work home with me after the work day was done.

    Cons

Slow moving, no agility, a lot of micromanaging. Takes ages to get anything done because of the hoops to jump through.

    Advice to Management

Let your midlevel managers make decisions without having to question everything they do since you promoted them to that level. If they don't pan out then move on with someone else.
