I have been working at Rooms To Go full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great Health Benefits with on site clinic
    - Phenomenal work/life balance
    - Company truly cares about employees - during the hurricanes, they gave out cases of water, they opened their warehouses as shelters for employees and their families, they give out turkeys every year for Thanksgiving
    - Any technology you need to do your job is always available
    - Fun culture, a lot of events and the wellness department puts together a lot of activities
    - Often times people are promoted to other departments from within
    - Emphasis on training and certifications in some departments for continuing education

    Cons

    - There are some people in management who got there by being good at what they did but they make horrible managers - these people need to be transitioned back into roles that they are well suited for
    - The restaurant selection near by is awful
    - Lack of vacation days - only 10 per year for the first 10 years - though a lot of managers help make this work by being flexible
    - Like with many companies employees who are promoted from within to fill roles are not compensated as well as an external candidate might be

    Advice to Management

Work on playing to employees/managements strengths

    Pros

The bottom line, the pay is outstanding. The floor is not flooded by formula. Traffic is driven better then any other furniture company.

    Cons

Like all retail the hours are demanding

    Advice to Management

I'd like more contests at the store level.

    Pros

You get to work with a great amount of driven people. Managers to actually learn from. Great leadership from the top. Great benefits.

    Cons

Work hours will never be consistent, unless you are in Sales. You will have to work most weekends and every holiday.

    Pros

Decent commission. It's a nice store and you don't have to be outside.

    Cons

Your usual sales commission cons. Lack of leadership from management. Management generally does not know what's going on or is worried about the wrong things.

    Advice to Management

Take 5 mins out of your day to try and see what you can do to help your team.

I worked at Rooms To Go full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Depending on the department, the people are pleasant to work with

    - Health benefits

    Cons

    - Lack of consideration for employee’s lives - during the hurricane, I was expected to come into the office or lose a vacation day (even when I was clearly working from home) but didn’t feel safe driving in 60 mph winds and falling trees

    - Team structure (on digital team) lacks direction and hierarchy - people with the certain job titles are “managing” others with their same job titles

    - No compensation for taking on more work and managing people

    - Lack of promotions for women - I was promised a title change after 2 years and then told the title was “too high” for me, although it was a lesser title than my male counterpart

    - HR department is not visible or easily accessible - I never felt like I could talk to someone when there were upsetting comments being made towards myself and teammates based on gender, race, etc

    - Lack of support from upper management - I rarely had one on ones to discuss my performance or concerns

    - Clear favoritism among teams and employees

    - Old, traditional mindset - not open to new ideas, expanding into new areas or changing with the times

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees' concerns and interests. Develop a clear structure and well thought-out training process for each team. Pay a competitive salary. Pay men and women equally.

I worked at Rooms To Go full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    • Health Benefits are amazing
    • The people here are great
    • Experience in corporate office depends on team placement: 3.5 yrs working in the merchandising department where I was very happy. Manager was great. Anytime I was interested in getting involved in a new part of the company he was super supportive and made it happen. When I was promoted to another department it was all downhill from there.

    Cons

    • Vacation is horrible- 10 days until you reach 10 yrs. with the company.
    • Below industry standard pay
    • When promoted to a new team, my "big raise" that was promised was a title change and a very small financial increase.
    • NO flexibility in working remotely
    • "Boy'sClub" mentality
    • Digital marketing department - Management with no design background leading designers with a micro-managing style that is suffocating. Management talks trash about advertising department. No creative freedom available, they would find ads they liked and then have us duplicate them. No clear direction which resulted in an enormous workload. A development plan was created for me in which I had no say, and I was punished when I spoke up. Department leaders created a toxic environment, consistently making offensive comments about women, race, and politics.

    Advice to Management

Pay a competitive salary. Pay women the same as men. Respect your employees. Choose managers who have experience working in the field they are managing.

I have been working at Rooms To Go full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Semi casual dress code. Store are like a family. Very close to my home. Most ppl would hate it but I don’t mind the fact that my breaks aren’t scheduled. I can go when i please! At a glance insurance doesn’t look tooo expensive. Vacation every 6 months!!

    Cons

The pay!! I cannot stress that $10.30 an hour. It’s sooo underpaid it’s crazy. For that amount I’d expect to just answer the phone and take payments. Training was there but 2 weeks isn’t enough to gain a FULL understanding of every office procedure. It’s retail so the hours aren’t that fun. I’m still new so I haven’t experienced the holidays yet. I took the position because I needed a job but being forced to continue to look around. Which sucks cause I actually like my staff!! Wait 90 days to get benefits and health insurance. No real room to move up

    Advice to Management

At least $11-$12 it’s A Lot of work for $10 and no chance of OT. Discount should be like 40% I mean the average living room set runs about $1100. That’s the least you could do. I’ll never be able to afford it making $10.30 lol
