I worked at Rosemary Children's Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic Kids. Virally Important Work. Powerful sense of service and good vibes from being a part of an industry that can give real life changing opportunities to children that need it most.

    Cons

RCS does not actually provide the opportunities available to their children and families and the children suffer most. There is no excuse for it. Upper management is too caught up in their own office politics to focus on the kids and the jobs we are there to do.

    Advice to Management

Office politics and toxic petty relationships at its worst. Worse than high school and far too much at stake for grown women to behave the way they do. Knock it off and do the work.

I worked at Rosemary Children's Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Gaining experience working with high acuity youth, of how administrations function and what their real focus is. Learning how to navigate in a dysfunctional system.

    Cons

Staff, particularly therapists, flow in and out of this place like a raging river in winter time. Therapists either quit or are fired with regularity. Confidentiality in therapy is difficult to maintain as therapists do not have private offices. Three of us in my room, two in the other. The focus seems to be on keeping the beds filled for the money vs. removing violent residents who are repeatedly destroying property and harming staff to a higher level of care. A very toxic atmosphere and little support from mgmt. Therapists worked 4 , 10 hr shifts and longer on a regular basis. 12 hour shifts were not uncommon, especially during dayz with crisis's. Therapist could not go home until they completed all their documentation for the day. This did not support accurate documentation. Devisive management and little staff support. Favortism abounds. Line staff are not properly trained or guided, leading to increased staff injuries and dangerous situations. Not a good place to learn how to work with regular kids, let alone those with challenges.

    Advice to Management

Work WITH and support your staff vs. setting yourselves above. Get back to the basics of philanthropic care and away from setting staff up for failure and/or termination. You should be creating a caring environment, not a toxic one.

I worked at Rosemary Children's Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the girls and helping them be successful.

    Cons

Extreme nepotism. Management is friends with HR. There is also a blame culture made by management. Management lacks human decency, and only cares about making themselves look good. They will throw you under the bus, make up lies about you, and make you look terrible just because they don't like you. Management expects you to work overtime and keeps piling on more and more work making it impossible to balance personal and work life. There is also little to no training, with the expectation that you will not make any mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees and your turnover rate won't be as high. You've lost a lot of great people.

I worked at Rosemary Children's Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Being able to help at risk youth definitely has its challenges but in the end it's very rewarding!!!

    Cons

While working at RCS it seemed like a really great way to gain experience but after awhile you tend to notice that their is "cliques" amongst the management which can be very frustrating and unprofessional. If you have a complaint about your boss it's almost as if you can't say anything because HR is their friend so it's definitely a conflict of interest the agency doesn't get. The agency was bought out by Victor Treatment Center because they needed an LADMH contract and this was their only hope of obtaining it. Unfortunately things have not been changed for the better they are still out of compliance with the MH dept. from IA's to CTP's, EBP's it's unbelievable the agency has actually gotten worse!!! There is no QA director!!! The turnover rate is high because staff can't take the BS that goes on their. It's really sad that the new CEO continues to let this go on!!!

    Advice to Management

How long will it take you to realize that you have lost some great staff due to the lack of having a good leader? You have one director who has a HS diploma that is overpaid, you have other Directors who only have a BA and once again overpaid take a look at who you are letting run this agency start cleaning house & you will see the transformation start to unfold things will not only get better but you will see the agency succeed, enough with being lazy get to work and clean house!!!

Co workers are a very tight group of people and it is awesome to develop close relationships with the clients.

Make sure you follow their procedures and guidelines exactly as stated and say/do what they want to hear/see. Going above and beyond gets you no where.

    I worked at Rosemary Children's Services full-time

    Pros

You get to work with a diverse subset of clients, because of all the commotion you build strong bonds with your coworkers, good training.

    Cons

The girls don't get basic services like doctor appointments, dental appointments, or treatment for lice immediately. HR doesn't care about you because they have such a high turn over rate. Staff have to handle situations that are way out of our scope of competence and if you don't you are penalized for it. Both female bosses ensure you feel subordinate, and are best friends with HR so they get away with everything and no one questions them. Overall, throughout your time at Rosemary's you are going to be underpaid, unappreciated, and probably develop some form of PTSD from all the fights you will break up and the restrains you will have to conduct.

    Advice to Management

Realize the harm you are doing to your clients. Fire those in upper management who have not and are not doing their jobs!
