Poor project management, toxic environment, employees get the blame

Nov 21, 2021 - GIS Data Integration Analyst in Houston, TX

      Pros

Good vacation and very affordable insurance. If you know how to suck up to management even if you have no talent or skills you will probably do just fine here.

      Cons

Project managers are awful and offer very little support or structure or detailed timeline. The main project manager thinks his job is to bully people into getting work done without providing support. There is always a rush during the last week of the month to get the work done. Management does not take feedback well. They say they want feedback but get upset when you respectfully provide feedback. Any feedback you give will be used against you at a later point. They expect regular employees to solve larger organizational issues and when things go wrong the regular employees are blamed. Management is unwilling to invest in growing employees in the Data Integration Analyst position. They are hiring people that are overqualified to do an entry-level data entry job. The Data Integration Analyst salary is low and raises (if you get one) are below standard of living increases. The employee handbook says that you can't talk about salary (look up Texas labor laws - they can't ban employees from talking about salaries). The current manager for the INS department is a micromanager and lies about various things and insists that all information is confidential because they don't want you talking to others. They say that work-life balance is important but publicly give kudos to those who work ridiculous hours and work on weekends. If the end of the month is on a Monday your weekend is gone.

      Mismanaged and No Balance

      Pros

Good benefits and corporate environment not too in your face.

      Cons

Analysts expected to do too much and while given many vacation days there is too much work to use them. Not much room for growth and other opportunities after getting level II analyst certificate.

      Pros

Good technology and equipment for the industry.

      Cons

Company doesn’t support employees. They over work techs have no home life balance. Must take vacation to get home. No support from management. Unsafe working conditions must fallow DOT but require techs to consistently break DOT to complete projects. Then make techs pay fines if the get caught braking DOT. I was terminated because they believe I was stealing by miss use of my credit card after 14 years of service. I would never knowingly steal from my company and was not given any warning or wright up or 30 day probation. Company used to good to work for 4years ago but the current working conditions shows no support for the employees only focused on profits and not well being of its employees.

      Pros

Clean work environment (for an industrial workplace) Team culture Great pay Raises/bonuses generally yearly Safety focused Great benefits (medical,dental,vision,401k,vacation)

      Cons

Focus mostly on seniority as opposed to work ethic and productivity. However, this is quite a specialized field, so in some cases it is understandable
