      Flexible hours, low pay

      Pros

My manager was kind and worked with reasonable scheduling changes I requested to accommodate my other personal scheduling commitments. Working with students from all over the world was exciting. Plenty of correspondence though from senior management and opportunities to sit in on company meetings. There were other types of work and even special projects sometimes available and they ask you if you are interested in the additional training/work. You can also pick up substitute hours to increase your weekly hours. They also launched a diversity initiative while I was there, and I admired their effort to increase inclusion and diversity.

      Cons

The pay rate ($12/hr) is quite low compared to my previous English teaching positions although the rate is probably adjusted to the remote nature of the job. Though you have access to co-workers and management on Slack, most days had no interaction. I also didn't know if my teaching style developed from years of teaching was acceptable according to their training and teaching expectations, as far as how much I could introduce my own teaching methods, and not knowing actually caused me some uncertainty and a bit of stress.

Good work-life balance, average place to work

      Pros

-Consumer Marketing team was agile, creative, and collaborated well with others -Director of Consumer Marketing was open to new ideas and often fought for members of her team -Good work-life balance, flexible WFH policy, great PTO policy

      Cons

-Salary is not competitive with other companies in the DC/MD/VA area, many of my peers were compensated less than the average salary for their role. Not to mention, women don't earn as much as their male counterparts. -The creative team can get defensive and is often closed to creative feedback, leaving you with no option but to use what they want. The creative team also demonstrated poor communication skills amongst each other and other teams, often affecting due dates and delivering content outside of expectations. -Growth within the company is limited, there are no clear career paths.

      A Formerly Great Company

      Pros

The people are what made Rosetta Stone great. We had an awesome team of diverse, smart, and talented people who all had a passion for helping spread language learning to the world.

      Cons

Working at Rosetta Stone was amazing for 4.5 years. Until the company was acquired by IXL Learning. Since the acquisition, the company’s best practices, mission, and passion has left the company a shell of its former self. Be weary of working here under the new regime.

      Pros

Great people to work with. Flexible work environment and there was opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. Good communication from the top down.

      Cons

Constantly shifting priorities makes it hard to stay focused. Pay was lower than similar organizations in the area. Different teams don't always get along
