I have been working at Rosetta Stone full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues, great culture, didn't experience *any* politics directly, compensation and benefits were good.

    Cons

Future has been uncertain. Have to overcome a necessary change in business model from consumer market in which they've dominated for decades, still looking for another market to sustain them. Company is not used to running lean, leading to stagnating revenue, level stock price, and annual layoffs. New direction seems positive and these may be things of the past, but not proven as of 2017.

    Advice to Management

John Hass (CEO) seems to be doing quite well and new direction seems viable. Future may be brighter.

I worked at Rosetta Stone (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great people who are very talented work here
    - The product actually helps people improve their lives
    - Remote work is available
    - New CEO is great and the Head of Product seems to be an improvement over the hot mess of previous ones, however other senior leaders are out of their element and it shows

    Cons

    - Tons of turnover
    - Company sometimes struggles for direction
    - New HR leadership is very impersonal and almost mean
    - Restrictive opportunities for advancement

    Advice to Management

    - More transparency in processes - especially around promotions and bonuses
    - Rethink how you interact with employees - treat them as people - not cogs in a wheel
    - Allow for more innovation

I have been working at Rosetta Stone full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rosetta is the first place that I've worked that trusts you to do the job you're hired for. There is no room or time for micro-mangers as work moves at a great pace and there are so many opportunities to get your hands dirty. You're trusted to manage your time (as seen by our unlimited leave and lots of flexibility), and have the freedom and support to try new things and think differently. This place is not for someone who wants to come in and do the same thing everyday - you need to be hungry for change, agile, and extremely collaborative. Lastly, everyone is passionate about what they do and our mission and vision. It's a great team to be a part of and I have no regrets joining Rosetta.

    Cons

Our flexibility is also a weakness at times as it's harder to build relationships across the organization. Being a flat company, there is not a lot of upward mobility on some teams however, you have wide scope of responsibility which allows you do gain experience in a ton of things.

    Advice to Management

Encourage break downing silos and continue to communicate our strategy.

I worked at Rosetta Stone full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People were nice, (at time), fun benefits like free drinks and bagels for staff.

    Cons

Very money-focused (due to public company), hard to keep good staff, environment is constantly of pressure.

    Advice to Management

Should have / still invest in the technology. Bring it to more modern day. May be too late.

    Pros

~ The company still has great products and great employees who are dedicated to the cause
~ Benefits are comparable to other companies it's size, and stock options are regularly given
~ HR schedules a lot of events for employees
~ Harrisonburg and Roslyn are very different but are great towns. Harrisonburg because of JMU and Roslyn because of it's proximity to Georgetown.

    Cons

~ The company was never the same after it went public and there was a switch of Executive Management. It's now all about taking cost out and making it more attractive to potential buyers (my opinion).
~ It's a company taking cost out, so there is little growth. The only real new work is being done in the Lexia business.

    Pros

    * Many opportunities to learn and develop your skills.

    * Employees are given a great deal of autonomy and authority within the scope of their roles.

    * Decent salary and benefits.

    Cons

    * In the past, senior management seemed to have a bad decision making process in place, eventually leading to multiple rounds of layoffs and the general financial trouble the company has found itself in.

    * Sometimes there's a sense of chaos as managers contradict each other and decide on strategy changes very frequently.

I worked at Rosetta Stone (More than a year)

    Pros

Depending on the department and location your management is fairly open minded.

    Cons

The word team is used, however, people do not treat each other with the respect team member should.

    Advice to Management

Leadership truly comes from the top, if you have employees that are not manager trying to lead but being stymied by their teammates where is the team?
